The latest school Ofsted judgements report has revealed an overall positive result for Wiltshire schools inspected in the autumn term of 2023.

The schools in question have either maintained or improved their Ofsted grading.

However, the percentage of schools graded Good or Outstanding in Wiltshire (83.0 per cent) remains below the figure for England (89.2 per cent) and the South West (86.8 per cent).

Councillor Jacqui Lay, who was chairing the Children’s Select Committee meeting on Wednesday, January 4, talked of “frustration and sadness” when considering that Wiltshire is “still trailing behind” these averages.

Despite this, the percentage of pupils in Wiltshire attending schools graded Good or Outstanding (89.3 per cent) is higher than the figure for both England (88.4 per cent) and the South West (87.0 per cent).

The report shows that Oaksey CE Primary School, Bitham Brook Primary School, Durrington CE Junior School, Hardenhuish Secondary School and Seagry CE Primary School all maintained their Oftsed rating of Good.

King’s Gate Primary School was inspected for the first time and also received a rating of Good.

Marden Vale CE Primary School and St George’s Catholic School did not improve their previous rating of Requires Improvement.

Meanwhile, Dilton Marsh CE Primary School, Sutton Benger CE Primary School and West Ashton CE Primary School successfully climbed up a ranking from Requires Improvement to Good.
