Dublin gas leak triggers multi-agency response after damage to pipeline as residents asked to keep windows closed
People in north Dublin have been told to keep their windows shut amid a major gas leak that has triggered a multi-agency emergency response.
Firefighters are working with Gas Networks Ireland technicians to make the area around the leak in Santry safe.
Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Three fire engines and a District Officer are on scene at a gas leak in Santry.”
A Gas Networks Ireland spokeswoman said: “At 8:27am today, 1 May, Gas Networks Ireland responded immediately to a report of third-party damage to a gas pipeline in Northwood, Santry.”
They said that Gas Networks Ireland staff arrived on site at 8:55am.
“The situation was made safe and the gas main capped at 11:08am. Repairs are currently under way,” the spokeswoman added.
Traffic restrictions are in place in Santry as crews continue to carry out repairs.
“As a precaution we’re asking residents to keep all windows closed,” Dublin Fire Brigade added.
TLC Centre Nursing Home in Santry, located in the Northwood area, issued advice to the family members of residents there.
“While buildings in the immediate area have been evacuated, we have been assured that the risk to the nursing home is small,” they said.
They advised family members not to start or stop the engine of their car in the vicinity of the nursing home.
“Do not smoke or vape in the vicinity of the nursing home, do not use your mobile phone in the area outside the nursing home. If you do visit the nursing home and smell gas either inside or outside please report this immediately,” they advised in their message.
“Given the precautionary measures we advise not to visit the home by car for the remainder of the morning while any remaining gas dissipates,” they added.
