Warning after cars crash in 'horrendous' weather

Police have urged motorists to “drive to the conditions” after multiple cars crashed in heavy rain in Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officer were called out after four vehicles aquaplaned during “horrendous” weather conditions on Saturday.

The force said one of the cars was inches away from ending up in a river after overturning in Leigham, Plymouth.

Officers said no-one was injured but three of the cars were written off.

A Met Office weather warning for rain was issued for Saturday and Sunday in Devon and other parts of England and Wales.

Devon County Council’s highways team said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that some roads were flooded.

Along with the incident in Plymouth, police said two cars had crashed on the A38 near South Brent.

The force has not confirmed where the fourth vehicle aquaplaned.
