DStv Premiership: Fixtures and results on Workers’ Day
The 2023/2024 DStv Premiership season has reached its final month and is quickly heading towards its conclusion, with matches coming thick and fast in the days ahead.
Four fixtures are scheduled for Workers’ Day on Wednesday, 1 May.
In the pick of the matches, Orlando Pirates will travel to the Mother City to take on Cape Town City FC.
Kick-off at the Cape Town Stadium is at 15:00.
The Buccaneers are looking to secure a spot in one of next season’s African competitions. They are currently in a CAF Confederations Cup place, but would no doubt like to swap that for a more lucrative CAF Champions League berth.
Meanwhile, Cape Town City FC haven’t won a league match this year and are in something of a freefall in sixth place in the log and will be looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack.
In other matches scheduled, Chippa United host Swallows (15:00), Stellenbosch FC welcome Golden Arrows to the Winelands (17:30), and Royal AM take on SuperSport United in the day’s late kick-off (19:30).
The Stellenbosch FC vs Golden Arrows clash is of particular interest in that if Stellies lose, Mamelodi Sundowns will be crowned champions for a seventh consecutive season (and 14th time overall).
A draw will, in all likelihood, also be enough for Masandawana to pop open the champagne, such is their superior goal differential.
