'We did have a few writing sessions!' Jake Carter teases music with his brother Nathan

While some of us might have already given up on our New Year’s resolutions, Jake Carter has had a strong start with his – and things are only set to get better.

The singer is dropping a new single on Friday – Love Me Like You Do – which is a mid-tempo love song that was originally written as a piano ballad and is sure to be stuck in your head all day.

He wrote the song with Irish singer-songwriter Megan O’Neil but with a famous brother in the family – who just happens to also be a singer – has Jake ever put pen to paper with country star Nathan?

‘We actually did have a few writing sessions in lockdown,’ Jake happily revealed to EVOKE. ‘On Nathan’s last album, there’s a couple of songs that I co-wrote but once Covid was gone and we got busy again we haven’t gone back to writing together.

‘I would love to do more songs. We do actually have a couple that we wrote together that were not released, so who knows, there might be more.’ Is that the sound of 1000s of country fans screaming that we can hear? Please, Jake and Nathan, provide us with the musical goods this summer!

While those songs seem locked in the vault for now, Jake does have five new songs including Love Me Like You Do which drops on Friday lined up for release in March when his EP which has a ‘Tom Grennan and Jonas Brothers meet Take That and McFly’ sound is released.

Chatting with EVOKE ahead of the release of Love Me Like You Do, Jake said: ‘One of my New Year’s resolutions was to focus more on music so it’s been a great start to the year. I wrote this song in lockdown in 2021 with Megan and it was originally a piano ballad. Although it’s a love song, it steers away from cliche lyrics and it’s great to finally put it out.

‘Writing with someone else can be a weird scenario sometimes as songwriting can turn into therapy as you’re generally writing about what you’re feeling in real life – and it can get you into trouble sometimes – but that’s the beauty of it and that’s what people can relate to.’

So, is the song about his long-time girlfriend, Karen Byrne? Jake laughed as he said: ‘I told Karen that it was about the dog, Lenny! I’ve never really told people who my songs are about, I let them make their own assumptions but it’s a bit obvious with this one.’

Jake’s new single is out Friday January 19 and he’ll be playing the Academy 2 on Saturday February 3.
