We all love to travel, and it is one of the few things that allows us to explore new places and create memories that will last a lifetime. However, only some tourist destinations are worth the hype.

In fact, several popular U.S. tourist destinations need to be rated more and often leave travelers disappointed. A Redditor asked what the most overrated tourist destination is? And here are the top picks:

1. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Myrtle beach is a popular tourist destination in South Carolina. It is known for 60 miles of sandy beaches and celebrity-designed golf courses. However, according to Redditors, it is not worth it.

“I was shocked to discover how many people travel there every year from outside the Carolinas. It’s dirty as anything, there’s a good chance some redneck will want to fight you at some point, and the beach isn’t that nice,” shared a local resident.

“There’s a reason it’s called “Dirty Myrtle” added another.

2. Hollywood, California 

This one needs no introduction. Hollywood has been one of the popular tourist destinations.

“Damn. I commented the same thing. As an Angeleno, I couldn’t agree more. It’s not even kitschy fun like Vegas, and it’s just ugly storefronts, dirty streets, cracked sidewalk stars,” shared one.

“Truth right here. Hollywood Blvd has now been overrun with homeless people and scrap lying everywhere. So many shops closed during pandemic, so now it looks super sketchy,” added another.

3. Empire State Building, New York

It is the world’s first 100+ story building, with a classic view of the New York skyline. So many people flock there every day, but it is not worth the hype.

“Go to the top of Rockefeller Center (aka “The Rock”) instead. Way better view, and cheaper too” added one.

“Can confirm. Did both, and the view was better on the rock and WAY fewer people,” added another.

4. Times Square, New York

Times Square is the liveliest area in New York City, famous for its lights, billboards, and bustling atmosphere, making it a symbol of the energy and excitement of New York City.

“There’s a reason New Yorkers avoid Times Square at all costs,” said one.

5. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville (Alabama)

“Huntsville, Al. Especially the space and rocket center. The idea is amazing, but the actual museum costs both legs and a kidney to get into, and it’s not great,” shared a user.

“Yeah, I live there too, and it’s not that great,” added another.

6. Disney World, Orlando.

Disneyland is famous for its magical experience for all ages, with iconic attractions, characters, and entertainment. However, according to many, it is not worth it.

“I agree. I went a few times as a kid. Unless you’re there specifically for the characters, there are way better theme parks that are a lot less of a hassle,” said one.

“Disney World, fun to visit like once or twice or if you have kids, but I’m talking about the people who go like every other year when you could visit entire other countries for the amount or spending,” added another.

7. Everything Vegas

“Everything is a massive rip-off. Even if you’re not throwing your money away at the tables, they rip you on everything else. Food, drinks, attractions. It’s even worse for me because I remember when Vegas was cheap. Rooms, food, and drinks were cheap or even free because they expected you to blow your wad at the tables. They allude to this at the end of the movie “Casino.” It was much nicer for the consumer when it was run by gangsters, and now it’s run by greedy corporations,” shared one.

“The strip is torn up, none of the escalators work, people are handing out club fliers everywhere, and the prices for everything are out of whack. Plus, you lose money at casinos, so it is a lose-lose-lose,” added another.

8. Niagara Falls, New York

Niagara Falls needs to introduction. It is one place that every Non-American knows of and probably, wants to visit too.

“The touristy stuff has intruded so deeply into Niagara falls that it practically blocks out the falls themself. Like you look at the falls for 5 minutes, get bored, then turn around and spend the day draining your wallet on the gaudiest tourist trap ever known to man while ignoring the natural wonder that brought you there in the first place,”shared one.

“The falls are nice. Absolutely everything around them is completely absurd,” added another.
