Donny van de Beek told to leave Manchester United to keep career alive

Donny van de Beek has been told to speak to his agent and find a way of Manchester United to keep his World Cup dreams alive.

Signed last season from Ajax for £35million, Van de Beek struggled for regular game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his debut season.

Things have not improved so far this year.

In four Premier League games, the 24-year-old was an unused substitute. His only appearance in the league? Five minutes off the bench.

Van de Beek told Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE podcast earlier this month that he spoke to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about a possible loan move to Everton but was told that he was needed at Old Trafford.

Limited minutes would suggest otherwise and former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchinson has said it’s time for the midfielder to move on.

“I think if you’re Donny van de Beek now, you’ve got to have the conversation with your agent, who’s then gonna have the conversation with the manager, chief executive because you’ve got a World Cup coming up in 18 months time,” Hutchinson told BBC 5 Live Sport.

“He cannot afford just to be sitting on that bench, playing in the League Cup midweeks and playing odd minutes and getting brought on and getting taken off.

“If I’m gonna Donny van de Beek I need to move on from Manchester United.”

The Dutchman got his first start of the season last week in the Champions League against Young Boys but was sacrificed at half-time with United down to 10 men.

For former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, when everyone knows you are the one to be taken off before it even happens, the writing is on the wall.

He said: “When Man United went down to 10 men against Young Boys, we just knew full well Van de Beek was coming off.

“And when it gets to that situation where, you know a subs going to be made before it’s even made, he might come back, you know, he never want to write a player off.

“The difference between [Jesse] Lingard, Lingard’s coming on affecting games where Van de Beek at the moment, because the players in his position, he’s not really getting the chance.

“[Scott] McTominay is back now as well, so he’ll get more game time. Got [Nemanja] Matic and Fred which Solskjaer seems to really like.

“So it’s gonna be very difficult for him.”
