This Friday, college football administrators are expected to finalize a recommendation for the adoption of three NFL-inspired rules.
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger, the move is expected to bring a two-minute warning, player-to-coach helmet communication systems and the use of tablets on the sideline (and in the locker room at halftime) to the college game.
“After two days of debate here this week, the NCAA Rules Committee is scheduled to vote on the changes in a recommendation to the NCAA Division I Council, which often rubber-stamps such decisions,” Dellenger writes.
The proposed helmet communications system will reportedly mimic the NFL, with one player on each team equipped with a listening device whose functionality ends with 15-seconds left on the play clock.
As for the two-minute warning, Dellenger reports that it will be referred to as a “two-minute timeout” and that it will operate in a similar manner as the NFL.
Major changes could be coming to college football next season.
Buckle up.
