Bafana Bafana star Ronwen Williams donates R50k to his old school

Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams paid a visit to his old primary school Gelvandale Primary School in Gqeberha on Monday, 19 February. He is said to have donated R50 000 to the school, Algoa FM reported.

According to the publication, Ronwen Williams’ donation will go towards all the school’s sporting codes. “Gelvandale Primary School will always be special to me because this is where everything started for me,” the soccer star was quoted as saying.

Taking to Facebook, Williams’ school also shared that on the day of his visit, Williams motivated the school pupils to dream big and aim for the stars.

“What a spectacular day today. The Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams come to our school to motivate our learners to reach for the stars and never give up on their dreams,” the school wrote.

The soccer star’s parents Hazel and Rodney Williams also recalled some of the fond memories of their child in his earlier years

“All of us played soccer in the house. When Ronwen was a baby, we were chairman and lady of the local football club. We kept all the equipment here at home and he would kick the ball around in the house and break all of my mirrors,” the mother was quoted as saying.

The Bafana Bafana players walked away with a whopping R1 million after taking third place at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, ZiMoja reported. This comes after they beat the Democratic Republic of Congo in Abidjan.

However, unfortunately, after progressing to the next stage of the tournament, Bafana Bafana was beaten by the Super Eagles in the semi-finals
