Scotland's new three AA Rosette restaurants for 2024 crowned

The AA has announced the latest restaurants to receive a prestigious Rosette, with two destinations in Scotland being given their third.

On Wednesday morning, the motoring association revealed its ‘spring update’, detailing the food spots around the UK to be recognised with either a third or fourth Rosette. The long-established Rosette scheme celebrates successful cooking at different levels across the nation, with restaurants assessed by a team of AA inspectors.

The two Scottish restaurants to be newly awarded a third AA Rosette are Mingary Castle and The Little Chartroom. The former is situated near the Highland village of Kilchoan, while the latter is found in Edinburgh’s buzzy Leith district.

Mingary Castle, located within the restored 13th-century castle of the same name, aims to showcase the best of Scotland’s west coast and makes use of sustainable and seasonal produce sourced locally. Its menu currently features dishes such as rump of hogget with braised leg tartlet, hand-dived scallops, and Warm Isle of Mull cheese fondue with caramelised onions.

Meanwhile, The Little Chartroom is an understated little spot that specialises in cocktails, wine, and a selective menu of luxury dishes. Among the current highlights are potato and mushroom agnolotti, beef sirloin with haggis dauphine, and chocolate and orange choux au craquelin.

Elsewhere, only one restaurant in the UK received a fourth AA Rosette in the latest update. La Dame de Pic is a high-end French restaurant in London, situated within a classy hotel venue.

The restaurant is run by Anne-Sophie Pic, the “world’s most decorated French female Michelin-starred chef” according to its website. It serves up tasting menus that include dishes such as hand-dived Orkney scallops, Cornish monkfish, and Andoa chocolate soufflé.

According to the AA, restaurants with three Rosettes “achieve standards that demand recognition well beyond their local area”, while their “timing, seasoning, and the judgment of flavour combinations will be consistently excellent”.

Meanwhile, eateries with four Rosettes “exhibit intense ambition, a passion for excellence, superb technical skills, and remarkable consistency” and are “among the top restaurants in the UK, where the cooking demands national recognition”.

The full list of UK restaurants to have been awarded their third or fourth AA Rosette can be found on the AA website.
