how kkr, rcb, csk can sign sarfaraz khan for ipl 2024 | explained
Sarfaraz Khan made waves as he became the fourth Indian in history to register half centuries in each innings of his debut Test match when he slammed 62 and 68 as he played his first match for India in the fourth Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. His aggressive style of play caught the eye of the nation, as many predicted that he would be a good fit for any IPL team. Now reports have emerged that many franchises are vying for the signature of the star batter. However, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might become the front runners to land the star Mumbai batter, who went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction for his base price of Rs 20 lakh
According to a report by the Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika, Sarfaraz Khan is being scouted by KKR ahead of the beginning of the IPL 2024. Gautam Gambhir has reportedly given the go-ahead to sign Sarfaraz in a bid to strenghthen their middle order. The report also states that MS Dhoni’s CSK has also given the green signal to sign the 27-year-old batter.
In fact, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are also vying for Sarfaraz Khan. Notably, Sarfaraz played for RCB from 2015 to 2018.
The IPL trade window is open till the start of the IPL 2024. With the auction now over, and players already signed for the franchise ahead of the cash rich league, franchises cannot simply sign him, even though they have the purse remaining to sign the Mumbai batter.
According to the rules of the IPL, a franchise can only sign a player after the IPL auction, only if an existing member of the squad is injured or withdraws from the tournament before the season starts. Sarfarz Khan can also not be traded by any franchise during the trade window, as a player has to be associated with a franchise in order for another franchise to trade him in in exchange of another player or a cash. Since Sarfaraz is not associated with any franchise, he cannot be traded in.
