DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland is back for its fourth season and the team’s first stop will see them transform a home in Cork to help a young man who uses a wheelchair.
Adam Drummond was on track for big things – having had scholarships in America for basketball, he was well on his way to success and achieving his dreams.
But at just 22 years old, Adam’s life changed completely when he suffered a tragic accident and is now using a wheelchair.
In an effort to make his house more accessible, so he can live there with ease after being forced to move to a ground-floor apartment, Baz and the DIY SOS team took over his home for the first episode of the upcoming series kickstarting on Sunday.

As much as Adam and his family adore their home, it is sat on a big hill, typical. ‘I love Cork but my God how many hills are in this place? It’s something else. I’d flatten it if I had my way,’ says DIY presenter Baz Ashmawy.
Adam is super strongminded and able, he just needed the access to be able to live life on his terms, ‘He hasn’t the freedom to go as he pleases and we’re going to change that’.
The dynamic Baz was not only extremely enthusiastic about helping out Adam and his family, but also about working in Cork alongside the incredible people who are there.
‘I don’t think we’ve ever had a reaction like we have had here,’ he explained of the Cork warmth, ‘I know we would in Cork. Cork people are so proud’.

He spoke of the community that absolutely rallied around the young man and ‘in a non-gendered sense, there’s a real brotherhood’ between the Cork people.
The episode will see the team put a lift into his home and add features that give Adam the help that he needs to live the life he should be able to live.
