Forecasters have warned it’s going to turn colder and windier across Yorkshire today, as the county braces itself for a 12-hour snowstorm on Friday (March 2).
The Met Office has forecast blustery, cool and wet weather conditions for Yorkshire in its outlook for Wednesday (February 27) and the remainder of the week. The cold and windy conditions will affect Bradford, York, Sheffield , Huddersfield and Leeds – before snow is expected to arrive on Friday.

Forecasters say Wednesday will be a blustery and wet day, with heavy and persistent showers. The Met Office forecast for Yorkshire on February 28, says: “Mist and fog patches soon clearing as winds strengthen in the morning with outbreaks of rain spreading east. These heaviest and persistent across western hills, brighter spells in the east. Maximum temperature 8 °C.”
It’s set to turn colder and breezier on Thursday (February 29), before snow arrives on Friday. The weather outlook for Yorkshire between Thursday and Saturday (March 2), is: “Sunshine and showers Thursday, but also colder, and breezier. Rain and hill snow, spreading east on Friday. Turning colder with showers of rain and snow on Saturday.”
The forecast comes as UK weather maps firm WXCharts has predicted snow for Yorkshire beginning at 3pm on Friday, March 1. Snow will mostly land on the West Yorkshire side , with areas like Huddersfield thought to be at the highest likelihood of snowy conditions.
WXCharts shows snow will cover much of Yorkshire from about 3pm and continue on and off for about 12 hours on Friday.

Bradford
It will be a cloudy day changing to light rain by lunchtime on Wednesday, with maximum temperatures of 9C. Cloudy conditions will continue into Thursday, with a ‘feels like’ temperature of 2C with wind gusts of up to 22 mph. It will be another cloudy start to the day on Friday, changing to light showers by lunchtime with a chance of snow. Saturday will be cloudy changing to light showers by lunchtime. Sunday will be cloudy with maximum temperatures of 8C.
Sheffield
It will be cloudy changing to light rain in the afternoon on Wednesday, with maximum temperatures of 8C, although blustery conditions will make it feel as cold as 2C. Showers are expected between 2pm and 9pm. Thursday will be cloudy changing to light rain by late morning, with slightly higher temperatures of 9C. Heavy rain will arrive in the Steel City by Friday lunchtime with temperatures between 2C and 7C. Saturday will be cloudy changing to light rain by late morning.
Huddersfield
It will be cloudy changing to light rain in the afternoon on Wednesday, with maximum temperatures of 9C and wind gusts of up to 34 mph by late afternoon. Light rain will change to cloud by late morning on Thursday, with temperatures between 2C and 9C, blustery conditions with wind gusts of up to 31 mph will continue to make it feel cooler. It will be a cloudy start to the day changing to light rain by lunchtime, with a feels like temperature of -1C. Overcast and cloudy over the weekend with temperatures between 8C and 9C.
York
Cloudy changing to light rain by night time is the outlook for York on Wednesday, with minimum temperatures of 7C and a maximum temperature of 8C. It will feel blustery, with wind gusts of up to 26 mph. The Met Office has forecast a cloudy, dry and windy day for York on Thursday before heavy rain arrives at lunchtime on Friday. Light rain showers are expected on Saturday, but it will be dry and cloudy on Sunday.
Leeds
It will be an overcast start to the day in Leeds on Friday, changing to light showers by night time with highs of 10C and lows of 8C. It will be a windy day, with gusts of up to 26 mph. The rain will ease and it will be a cloudy and dry day in the city on Thursday, with temperatures between 9C and 2C. The cloudy conditions will continue in Leeds on Friday morning, changing to light rain by lunchtime. Temperatures will be cooler heading towards the weekend, with a maximum temperature of 6C. Cloudy and overcast conditions will continue over the weekend.
