digiyatra: now, your face will be your boarding pass at these airports; jyotiraditya scindia launches digiyatra at delhi airport
New Delhi: From December 1, passengers are allowed into the terminal buildings at selected airports and to board a flight without any physical identity proof. The government on Thursday introduced automated airport entry and check-ins without any paper-based documents.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has launched DigiYatra that allows entry of air passengers based on a facial recognition system at the airport in the national capital. Also, DigiYatra is being launched at Varanasi and Bangalore airports today. Later, the technology would be implemented across the country.
At Delhi airport, DigiYatra will be available for travellers taking domestic flights from Terminal 3 (T3).
What is DigiYatra?
Digi Yatra is a contactless and seamless processing of air passengers through facial recognition technology (FRT). It uses facial features to establish the identity of the traveller, which will be linked to the boarding pass.
Simply put, any passenger can go through various checkpoints, including the security counter, at the airport via a paperless and contactless processing, using facial features to establish the identity.
How to use the Digi Yatra facility?
A flyer need to download the DigiYatra app to enjoy the benefits offered by the programme. Also, a passenger has to register his or her details on DigiYatra app using Aadhaar-based validation and a self image capture.
In the next step, the boarding pass has to be scanned and the credentials are shared with the airport. After that, the passenger has to first scan the bar-coded boarding pass and the facial recognition system installed at the airport’s e-gate. Once this process is done, the person can access the terminal building for check-in and security clearance without any paper documents.
The gate would open automatically for the passenger once the code was scanned at the entrance.
Scindia mentioned that said DigiYatra data is stored in a decentralised manner.
