Pagasa: Rains likely in parts of PH due to 3 weather systems

MANILA, Philippines — Clouds bearing rain were forecast to appear in several parts of the country on Saturday due to three weather systems, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In a morning public weather report, the state weather agency said the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, would cause partly overcast to overcast skies with isolated light rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands. However, it noted, this condition was not seen to have a significant impact on affected areas.

On the other hand, Pagasa said the easterlies, or wind blowing from the Pacific Ocean, and localized thunderstorms, would bring slightly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country from afternoon to evening.

It warned people living in low-lying areas of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Pagasa, however, said these regions may still have generally fair weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

“We are still not monitoring any low pressure area or bad weather inside or outside our Philippine area of responsibility that may affect our country in the next few days,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said in Filipino.

The state weather agency did not raised gale warning alerts over any part of the archipelago’s seaboards for Saturday.
