Der desaströse Auftritt beim 1:4 in Mainz verschärft den Negativtrend des FC Augsburg. Vor allem Manager Stefan Reuter gerät immer stärker unter Druck.

Debakel in Mainz verschärft Augsburgs Negativtrend

Aktivität, Aggressivität und Zweikampfstärke hatte Weinzierl von seinem Team vor dem Spiel in Mainz gefordert. Er bekam blinden Aktionismus, Verunsicherung und Wehrlosigkeit. Statt kompakt zu verteidigen, wie es Weinzierl wollte, liefen seine Spieler den Gegner weit vorne an. Und zwar so planlos und unsortiert, dass es Mainz leicht hatte, den FCA zu überrennen. Mit seinen Pfiffen, Schreien und Gesten am Spielfeldrand bewirkte der Trainer 45 Minuten lang nichts. “Wir haben nicht das gespielt, was wir besprochen haben. Das ist nicht akzeptabel”, sagte der konsternierte Weinzierl nach Schlusspfiff.

0:3 stand es nach 26 Minuten, bis zur Pause hätte es 0:5 stehen können, mit dem 1:4 war Augsburg am Ende gut bedient. Der kraftlose und konfuse Auftritt in Mainz verschärft den anhaltenden Negativtrend: Das Team gewann unter Weinzierl nur zwei von zwölf Spielen. Bereits zum dritten Mal in dieser Saison kassierte der FCA vier Gegentore. Der Angriff zählt mit fünf Treffern zu den schlechtesten der Liga. Sechs Punkte nach neun Spielen sind die Bilanz eines Absteigers. Und wie ein solcher trat die Mannschaft am Freitag nicht zum ersten Mal auf.

Der miese Saisonstart setzt den Trend der jüngsten Spielzeiten fort. Klubchef Klaus Hofmann hatte bei der Mitgliederversammlung am Dienstag die sportliche Fehlentwicklung der vergangenen Jahre angeprangert: “Wir haben uns das Fußballspielen systematisch abgewöhnt.” Diese Bestandsaufnahme verknüpfte der Vorstandsboss mit klaren Signalen an seine leitenden Angestellten im Sport: Hofmann sprach Weinzierl trotz des Fehlstarts das volle Vertrauen aus, Manager Stefan Reuter hingegen erwähnte er in seiner 40-minütigen Rede mit keinem Wort.

Reuter rückt weiter in den Fokus

Stattdessen zählte Hofmann eine Reihe von Kritikpunkten auf, die in das Verantwortungsgebiet des Geschäftsführers Sport fallen: die hohe Fluktuation bei den Trainern, die Kurswechsel in der Transferpolitik, der Nachholbedarf beim Scouting. Differenzen zwischen Hofmann und Reuter traten bereits in der vergangenen Saison auf, als es um die Bewertung des damaligen Trainers Heiko Herrlich ging, an dem Reuter zu lange festhielt. Auch das Verhältnis des Managers zur Mannschaft soll in den vergangenen Monaten gelitten haben, wie aus dem Umfeld des Teams zu hören ist. Dass Reuter zuletzt während der Länderspielpause trotz prekärer Situation über eine Woche lang Urlaub machte und auch zum Start in die Trainingswoche vor dem wichtigen Heimspiel gegen Bielefeld nicht zurück war, kam weder beim Team noch im Verein gut an.

Dreimal wechselte der FCA in den vergangenen drei Spielzeiten den Trainer, doch besser wurde nichts, die Probleme bleiben dieselben, die Stimmung im Verein wirkt belastet. Dadurch rückt zwangsläufig der Manager in den Fokus. Die Luft für Reuter wird dünner. “Wir können nicht mit dem zufrieden sein, was wir in den letzten Jahren bieten, was wir spielen. Wir haben uns immer über die Ziellinie gerettet, aber nicht in der Art und Weise, wie wir es gerne sehen würden”, sagte Reuter am Freitagabend angesprochen auf Hofmanns Kritik und blickte nach vorne: “Es wäre wichtig, dass mal wieder der FC Augsburg drin ist, wo FC Augsburg draufsteht. Die Art und Weise, wie wir über Jahre agiert haben, hat die Mannschaft ausgezeichnet und beliebt gemacht. Da müssen wir wieder hin. Wir sind überzeugt, dass wir da wieder hinkommen”, betonte Reuter. Die Frage ist nur, ob alle beim FCA die Überzeugung haben, dass dies in der aktuellen Konstellation gelingen kann.
