  • The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning from 10 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday for Philadelphia, the surrounding suburbs, northern Delaware and South Jersey.

Here we snow again!

For the second time this week, snow is falling in parts of the Philadelphia region. Unlike Tuesday morning’s storm that left a foot or more in parts of the area however, this storm isn’t expected to leave much more than a few inches in some places.

Unlike Tuesday’s system that began as rain before transitioning to snow, this latest system is expected to just bring snow from the Delaware Beaches to the Jersey Shore to the Lehigh Valley.

A FIRST ALERT and a Winter Storm Warning are in effect for our entire region from 10 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday due to the expected snow.

Snow begins late Friday

Light snow began falling parts of the area around 10 p.m. Friday. The snow is expected to continue into the overnight hours before tapering off after daybreak on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024.

So, you might sleep right through any flakes falling and wake up to a blanket of white on the ground.

“Most people will sleep through this,” said NBC10 First Alert Weather meteorologist Bill Henley.

Snow should be gone by 6 a.m. and you could even see some sun Saturday afternoon as temps warm to around 40.

How much snow will fall?

Lehigh Valley – 2 to 4 inches of snow

Delaware Valley – 3 to 5 inches of snow

Jersey Shore and Delaware – 2 to 4 inches of snow

Further south – A coating to an inch of snow

The snow will produce some slippery conditions that lead to a slushy mess in neighborhoods. You might even need to do some light shoveling on the sidewalk and driveway.

But, overall, this isn’t expected to be a major snow in the Philadelphia region.

Melting should continue on Sunday with plenty of sunshine and highs around 40.

Be sure to have the latest version of the NBC10 app downloaded so you can stay ahead of any snow we get.
