Die Deutsche Bank knüpft mit einem Milliardengewinn 2021 an ihre besten Zeiten an. Sowohl vor als auch nach Steuern fuhr der Frankfurter Dax-Konzern das beste Ergebnis seit zehn Jahren ein.

Die Aktionäre sollen am Unternehmenserfolg teilhaben und nach zwei Nullrunden wieder eine Dividende erhalten. Ausserdem will die Bank über den Rückkauf eigener Aktien eine dreistellige Millionensumme ausschütten. Von ihrem Renditeziel für 2022 ist die Bank allerdings noch ein gutes Stück entfernt.

Nach Steuern standen 2,5 Milliarden Euro in der Bilanz und damit mehr als vier Mal so viel wie im ersten Jahr der Pandemie (624 Mio Euro).
Nach Abzug von Zinszahlungen an die Inhaber eigenkapitalähnlicher Anleihen verbleiben unter dem Strich gut 1,9 Milliarden Euro. Im Gesamtjahr 2020 hatte die Deutsche Bank nach fünf Verlustjahren in Folge mit 113 Millionen Euro erstmals unter dem Strich wieder einen Gewinn erzielt.

“Alle vier Geschäftsbereiche entwickeln sich wie geplant oder sogar besser, und beim Abbau von Altbeständen sind wir schneller vorangekommen als erwartet”, bilanzierte Sewing. Die erwarteten Kosten des Konzernumbaus seien fast vollständig verdaut.
“2022 ist das Jahr, in dem wir dem Markt endgültig beweisen können, dass wir nachhaltig profitabel sind”, schrieb Sewing an die Mitarbeiter. “Hierin steckt ein unglaubliches Potenzial – nicht zuletzt für unseren Aktienkurs. Immer noch liegen wir bei rund 45 Prozent des Buchwerts, was einer Bank, die eine Rendite auf das materielle Eigenkapital von acht Prozent erwirtschaftet, nicht gerecht würde.” Der Vorstand hat sich für 2022 vorgenommen, eine Rendite auf das materielle Eigenkapital von 8 Prozent nach Steuern zu erreichen. Im vergangenen Jahr waren es 3,8 Prozent.
Jetzt will der Vorstand die Kosten der Bank von Quartal zu Quartal um 450 Millionen Euro senken. Ausserdem zeigt sich das Management angesichts der jüngsten Geschäftsentwicklung zuversichtlich, was die Entwicklung der Erträge – also der gesamten Einnahmen – angeht. Die bisher für 2022 gesetzte Zielmarke von mindestens 25 Milliarden Euro hat das Institut hierbei schon im abgelaufenen Jahr überschritten.
Sewing hatte dem Konzern nach einer Serie von Verlustjahren 2019 einen tiefgreifenden Umbau verordnet. Das Kapitalmarktgeschäft, in dem es in der Vergangenheit immer wieder Auswüchse und in der Folge teure Rechtsstreitigkeiten gegeben hatte, wurde geschrumpft. Aus dem weltweiten Aktienhandel etwa zog sich die Deutsche Bank ganz zurück.
Konzernweit wurden Tausende Stellen gestrichen: Ende 2021 betrug die Zahl der Vollzeitstellen 82 969, zum Start des Umbaus waren es 90 866. Der Vorstand hatte ursprünglich das Ziel ausgegeben, die Zahl der Stellen bis Ende 2022 um 18 000 auf weltweit 74 000 zu drücken, später aber betont, es gehe vor allem um die Senkung der Kosten.
Risikovorsorge sinkt seit Krisenjahr
2021 profitierte die Bank auch davon, dass sie deutlich weniger Geld für mögliche Kreditausfälle zurücklegen musste als im ersten Jahr der Corona-Pandemie: Die Risikovorsorge sank zum Vorjahr um 71 Prozent auf 515 Millionen Euro.
Grösster Gewinnbringer war erneut das Investmentbanking, in dem der Dax-Konzern zum Beispiel mit dem Handel von Anleihen und Währungen Geld verdient. Die Sparte steigerte ihren Vorsteuergewinn zum Vorjahr um 17 Prozent auf gut 3,7 Milliarden Euro. Das Privatkundengeschäft kam gerade einmal auf 366 Millionen Euro.
Auch im Schlussquartal 2021 hielt sich die Deutsche Bank entgegen der Erwartung von Analysten in der Gewinnzone. Unter dem Strich standen 145 Millionen Euro Gewinn. Damit hat der Konzern sechs Quartale in Folge schwarze Zahlen geschrieben.
Die Aktionäre sollen für das Geschäftsjahr 2021 eine Dividende von 20 Cent je Anteilsschein bekommen, wie die Bank bereits am Mittwochabend mitgeteilt hatte. Analysten hatten jedoch mit etwas mehr gerechnet. Ausserdem beschloss der Vorstand, über ein Aktienrückkaufprogramm im ersten Halbjahr 2022 mehr als 300 Millionen Euro an die Eigentümer zurückzugeben.
Beides zusammen summierte sich nach Angaben der Bank auf eine Kapitalausschüttung von rund 700 Millionen Euro. Dies solle der erste Schritt sein, wie angekündigt im Laufe der nächsten Jahre Kapital in Höhe von fünf Milliarden Euro auszuschütten.
