How C.J. Stroud found out Texans traded for Stefon Diggs

The Texans gave C.J. Stroud a new weapon in 2024 after sending a 2025 second-round pick to the Bills for wide receiver Stefon Diggs and two late-round picks earlier this month.

So how did Stroud react to the news? Well, at first he didn’t even know what happened.

He was asleep when the news broke and told reporters Monday that he woke up to a text from a friend that read, “How you feeling, bro?” Stroud, still half-asleep, simply replied he was “feeling good,” before dozing back off. He told reporters he found out later on Instagram.

Stroud later added that he was excited about the acquisition of Diggs after they met at the 2024 Pro Bowl games. Between Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell, the Texans have arguably the best wide receiver room in the NFL as the Texans look to rise from the top of the AFC South to a potential Super Bowl run this season.

Diggs’ fit in Texans offense

The Texans weren’t coy about their interest in the wide receiver market. They tried to trade for Keenan Allen before he landed with the Chicago Bears and were rumored to be in on a few other veterans.

Diggs, though, fits the mold of “separator” wide receiver head coach DeMeco Ryans mentioned he wanted to add to the team. While Collins and Dell can play on the outside, Diggs can snag passes in the middle of the field and give Stroud a great safety net alongside tight end Dalton Schultz.

He might not wrack up as many targets as he did during his time in Buffalo, but Diggs is still a multi-time 100-catch, 1,000-yard receiver. The Texans also restructured Diggs’ contract to make him an impending free agent after the 2024 season.

While this is a bit of a risk given Diggs could turn into a one-year rental, it fits in-line with a one-to-two year contention plan by general manager Nick Caserio set in motion before he’ll need to pay Stroud, Will Anderson Jr. and Derek Stingley in 2026.
