Delivery of corona self-tests is on schedule, according to drugstores

The supply of the stock of corona self-tests is on schedule, the Central Bureau of Drugstore companies (CBD) said. The extra stock of self-tests that has been ordered so that there are enough self-tests for the future will arrive from Friday and Saturday. “Then it involves millions of self-tests,” says a spokesperson. Since the beginning of this week, many people miss out because the self-tests were sold out in many places.

“This week mainly small quantities have arrived, which often went directly to the store,” said the spokesman. Usually, orders first go to a distribution center and stores are supplied from there.

Corona self-tests have been available at supermarkets, drugstores and pharmacy since April. Sales fell in October, but demand has been high again since November, according to the CBD. Since the press conference on Friday, November 26, sales have increased further. Then the caretaker cabinet advised with a view to Sinterklaas that people test themselves preventively before they visit. “If we compare the daily turnover with last week, we have already passed it by a few tens of percent this week,” says the spokesperson about the sale of the self-tests.

On Thursday, the cabinet decided that a self-test is sufficient for complaints that may indicate the corona virus. Until now, the advice was to always have a GGD test done in case of corona-like complaints. If the self-test is positive, a GGD test must still be done. If the test is negative, people do not have to stay at home.

Until Christmas, millions of self-tests will be added for the drugstore companies. The CBD thinks demand pressures will ease once schools get self-tests delivered next week. For groups six to eight of primary education and the whole of secondary education, it is recommended that all students take a self-test twice a week.
