Delhi eases Covid-19 restrictions: Check what's allowed and what's not

In the wake of the declining Covid cases, the Delhi government has lifted the weekend curfew and revised the coronavirus restrictions in the national capital. However, the night curfew which is currently imposed on weekdays from 10 pm to 5 am will continue to be in force.

The decision was taken after a virtual meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was chaired on Thursday which was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other senior key officials.

It was also decided that the odd-rules for non-essential shops will also end and the DDMA has permitted the offices in the city to operate with 50 per cent capacity, reported news agency ANI.

What’s allowed in Delhi and what’s not?

-All the schools, colleges and educational institutions in the national capital will continue to remain shut. The DDMA said that the decision on reopening schools would be taken in the next meeting.

-Restaurants, bars and cinema halls will be allowed to operate in Delhi with 50 per cent capacity.

-As per the revised Covid guidelines, only 200 people can attend weddings and other gatherings or at 50 per cent capacity of the venue. Only 20 people can attend such events at home, the Times Now revealed in a report.

-The government offices have been allowed to open in Delhi and will function at 50 per capacity.

-The government has strictly asked people to adhere to appropriate Covid protocols, wear masks and follow social distancing to contain the spread of infection. If the situation worsens in Delhi, the government would introduce other guidelines to check the possible spike in Covid cases.

Decision on schools reopening soon

More than 1,600 parents signed a petition and sent it to authorities requesting the opening of schools and anganwadi centres for physical classes on priority once Delhi begins lifting its current set of Covid-19 restrictions. The petitioners feel that it has now become important to prevent further damage to the social and emotional well-being of children.

A delegation of parents had sought the reopening of schools in the national capital. Responding to this, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Arvind Kejriwal government would recommend the reopening of schools at Thursday’s meeting.

But the government has decided to review this decision in the next DDMA meeting. The schools would remain shut in Delhi till further orders.

Delhi Covid situation

On Thursday morning, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that the Covid situation in the city is under control. Jain was quoted by Times Now as saying that Delhi would report less than 5,000 Covid cases today and the positivity rate would also come down to 10 per cent.

Delhi reported 7,498 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours with 29 deaths. The Covid cases in the national capital have been witnessing a sharp fall for the past few days. In January, 603 people died of Covid which is the highest since the 740 deaths reported in June.
