Philippine Bureau of Immigration Building
Immigration officers have prevented an individual who is on the INTERPOL list of suspected foreign terrorists from entering the Philippines, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced Monday.
According to the BI, the 31-year-old foreigner was refused entry on February 7 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
The BI INTERPOL unit found that the foreigner is subject of a diffusion notice of the INTERPOL for alleged involvement in a terrorism-related crime.
He was excluded under Section 29 of the Philippine Immigration Act, which prevents the entry of “any alien who believes in, advises, advocates, ore teaches the overthrow by force and violence of constituted law authority.”
The foreigner arrived from Abu Dhabi. The BI said his companion, a 27-year-old woman, was also turned back for accompanying him.
Meanwhile, the BI said the foreigner has been included in the agency’s blacklist. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
