‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ does not require any previous MCU knowledge, director says: “This movie is built for entertainment”

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is one of the most anticipated films of the year and its filmmaker Shawn Levy thinks fans of the MCU don’t need to watch all the previous Marvel films. He stated the fans don’t need to come prepared before seeing his latest picture.

During a recent interview with the Associated Press, the director disclosed that the upcoming Marvel film, which stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, is intended to be entertaining. “I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies,” Levy told AP.

The MCU has grown more difficult for some people to follow as more films and streaming series have been released over time. Levy assures the fans, nevertheless, that this latest addition to the Marvel multiverse was created with consideration for the “rabid fan base.”

He stated, “I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that.” He further added. “This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research.”

Levy stated at CinemaCon that even though this is the third ‘Deadpool’ movie, it shouldn’t be referred to as ‘Deadpool 3’.

Levy spoke to Screen Rant during CinemaCon and shared, “As far as crafting the Deadpool and Wolverine story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles.” He added, “It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool and Wolverine. And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”

The second trailer of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, which was released last week, saw Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds return as the co-leads working together to save the world. It is the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the third in the ‘Deadpool’ series. The film releases in theaters on July 26.
