“Big Bang Theory” Alums Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik to Reunite as Sheldon and Amy for “Young Sheldon ”Series Finale

The finale episode of ‘Young Sheldon’ featuring Parsons and Bialik will air on CBS in May

Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik are returning for one final bazinga!

The Big Bang Theory alums will reprise their roles as Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler for the Young Sheldon series finale airing May 16 on CBS.

Young Sheldon follows Cooper’s life as a 9-year-old child prodigy living with his family and attending high school in Texas. The series stars Iain Armitage in the title role and also features Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord and Lance Barber.

Though Parsons and Bialik’s cameo will be the first time any of the original cast members will physically appear in the prequel series, Parsons narrated the show for all seven seasons and Bialik has previously co-narrated as Amy in two episodes.

In November 2023, CBS announced that the hit spinoff would be concluding with its seventh and final season.

“Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” executive producers Steve Holland, Steven Molaro and Chuck Lorre said in a joint statement to PEOPLE. “We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”

In a conversation with PEOPLE last month, Armitage reflected on the last seven years on the series and how its made a lasting impact on his life.

“It’s been half my life, which is kind of wild to think about, but just so fun, so wonderful, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to grow up,” he told PEOPLE last month. “Every single person I get to work with, I feel so honored to get to be working with and get to be their costar or … get to be part of their work and part of their livelihood.”

As the cast moves on to their next projects, Armitage revealed he hopes to hold on to the series by adopting one or two traits from his eccentric character.

“It’s funny, because I always sort of joke about like method acting [which] seems so silly to me … But it is weird. I really do kind of feel like half-Sheldon, half-Iain,” he explained. “I would like to keep the brains. I would like to keep the once-in-a-generation genius part, but in lieu of that, I think the way he approaches the world is funny and unique, and I always hope to approach the world and people as uniquely and really focused on each person as I can.”
