Conor McGregor is set to return at the end of this year but it will be in the octagon rather than a boxing ring.
UFC president Dana White denied reports of a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor taking place.
The promoter was speaking to The Jim Rome Show on Monday and said he will be fighting again, but in a cage next.
“Not me, I’m not talking about that,” White said. “(Conor’s return) will be in the cage. Conor’s looking to come back the end of this year, early next year.
“When I do talk to Conor, Conor wants to fight,” White said. “Conor gets all kinds of offers for movie roles and all these other things that he could go and do and make money. He doesn’t want to do any of that. Conor wants to fight.”
McGregor fought Mayweather in 2017 and while the referee halted proceedings in round 10, the Irishman produced a competitive display.
The pair are expected to fight again despite White not being interested. With McGregor having just two fights remaining on his UFC deal, it is more than likely in the pipeline for next year.
McGregor is currently recovering from a broken leg and wants to fight this year against either welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, Jorge Masvidal or a top lightweight contender.
Mayweather, meanwhile, is continuing to fight exhibitions and recently snubbed the opportunity of taking on Manny Pacquiao.
