PETALING JAYA: Seorang peguam kanan Singapura menyifatkan dakwaan Shafee Abdullah mengenainya di Mahkamah Persekutuan sebagai “menghina” dan “palsu”

“Saya tidak terkejut bahawa beliau menjatuhkan tahap dirinya yang begitu rendah kerana ia adalah sifatnya,” kata Niru Pillai dalam satu kenyataan.

“Dakwaan jahatnya bahawa saya ‘bakal dikenakan tindakan disiplin oleh Badan Peguam Singapura’ kerana (saya) mengamalkan undang-undang tanpa lesen,’ adalah skandal, keji dan palsu.

“(Shafee) gagal menyedari bahawa terdapat banyak rekod secara bertulis, termasuk perbualan yang dirakam dan mesej WhatsApp, tentang apa yang sebenarnya berlaku.

“Ini akan menjelaskan perkara ini dengan sendirinya pada masa dan forum yang sesuai supaya Shafee akan terdedah untuk tatapan semua orang.”

Niru menjawab komen Shafee mengenainya pada pendengaran permohonan Najib Razak minggu lepas untuk mendapatkan semakan oleh Mahkamah Persekutuan terhadap keputusannya untuk mengesahkan sabitan dan hukuman bekas perdana menteri itu dalam kes rasuah SRC International.

Beliau berkata Shafee hanya terlibat dalam “kelakuan yang boleh dijangka” untuk menutup “kekurangan dan kegagalannya” dengan “melemparkan fitnah kepada semua orang, termasuk hakim perbicaraan”.

Sebab utama mengapa permohonan yang difailkan oleh Shafee untuk mengemukakan bukti baharu di Mahkamah Persekutuan berkaitan dengan peranan hakim perbicaraan Nazlan Ghazali sebagai peguam am Maybank sebelum ini dan penglibatannya dengan 1MDB gagal adalah kerana bukti itu sudah diketahui oleh beliau semasa perbicaraan Najib sedang berlangsung, katanya.

“Bukti yang dipanggil ‘baharu’ itu tidak baharu seperti yang difahami oleh undang-undang. Ia sudah diketahui oleh Shafee dan pasukannya, sebagai peguambela Najib.

“Pengetahuan itu secara sah dikaitkan dengan Najib,” kata Niru sambil menunjukkan bahawa ini adalah keputusan yang dicapai oleh Mahkamah Persekutuan ketika melupuskan permohonan itu pada Ogos tahun lepas.

“Dakwaan Shafee yang dia tidak tahu itu memanjangkan kredibiliti dan kepercayaan,” katanya.

Niru berkata Shafee tidak dapat menjelaskan “kegagalan besar dan kecuaiannya” dalam menjalankan perbicaraan Najib.
