PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: The number of daily Covid-19 infections reported in this province rose suddenly to 341 on Friday, most in Pran Buri district. There was one more coronavirus-related death.

On Thursday, the province reported 182 cases and two deaths.

Provincial public health office chief Wara Selwattanakul said on Friday the 341 new cases brought the provincial total to 13,345. Accumulated fatalities were now 89.

Pran Buri district reported by far the most, with 238 new cases, largely among clusters at four fruit canneries, a construction camp for a railway project and in workers’ living quarters at a pineapple canning factory, Dr Wara said.

Pran Buri district’s accumulated cases over 14 days rose to 925. In Hua Hin resort town, total cases for he same period stood at 616, he said.

Health authorities were worried about new infections at clusters, particularly at canneries and construction camps, Dr Wara said.

Infected people were quickly being given treatment and at-risk people quarantined. Mass testing was also underway.

He saw it as necessary to set up field hospitals for Covid-19 patients. The trend was for the rate of infection to rise.

Prachuap Khiri Khan was among the 10 provinces reporting the highest number of daily infections on Friday.

Bangkok had 908 new cases, followed by 676 in Songkhla, 662 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 432 in Yala, 422 in Pattani, 412 in Chiang Mai, 341 in Prachuap Khiri Khan, 309 in Tak, 307 in Samut Prakan and 306 in Narathiwat.
