Cyclisme – Cofidis : Vasseur aimerait garder Viviani et recruter « un profil à la Lopez »

Dans une interview à Cyclismactu, le manager de l’équipe Cofidis Cédric Vasseur a évoqué le marché des transferts, affirmant qu’il souhaitait conserver Elia Viviani et recruter un coureur avec « un profil à la Lopez » pour épauler Guillaume Martin.

Avec douze victoires au compteur cette année dont une sur le Giro (Victor Lafay) et deux Top 10 sur le Tour de France et la Vuelta (Guillaume Martin), l’équipe Cofidis réussit une saison plutôt correcte. Et celui qui lui apporté le plus de succès (cinq) n’est autre qu’Elia Viviani, qui était pourtant annoncé sur le départ au cœur de l’été, en raison de son manque de résultats. Mais les JO de Tokyo ont servi de déclic au sprinteur italien, et les dirigeants de Cofidis aimeraient désormais qu’ils prolongent son contrat, comme l’a expliqué le manager de l’équipe Cédric Vasseur dans une interview à Cyclismactu. « Pour être vraiment tout à fait transparent, les discussions ont repris depuis un certain temps avec Elia, avec son management, j’aurai des discussions encore cette semaine sur les Championnats du monde. On sait que c’est Giovanni Lombardi qui défend ses intérêts, j’ai eu une vraie discussion constructive avec lui, avec Thierry Vittu notre président vendredi dernier et je crois qu’aujourd’hui si on peut trouver un terrain d’entente avec Elia Viviani et bien je pense que les choses devraient avancer rapidement, explique l’ancien maillot jaune du Tour de France. Maintenant, il reste un accord à trouver ou pas parce que rien n’est fait. Mais notre volonté, et s’il y a possibilité de trouver un accord, on aimerait bien poursuivre l’aventure avec Elia Viviani. Il ne faut pas non plus oublier que la saison 2020 a été tronquée donc on n’a pas réellement eu deux ans avec Elia Viviani, on a fait un an et demi. Maintenant, c’est Elia, c’est son agent, ce sont eux qui prendront la décision. En tout cas, nous on se positionnera très rapidement. »

Vasseur : “Des coureurs qui sont capables de tirer leur épingle du jeu dès que la route s’élève”

Concernant les Grands Tours et les étapes de montagne, l’équipe Cofidis aimerait recruter un grand nom pour épauler Guillaume Martin, mais la liste des coureurs disponibles n’est pas très longue. Même si un nom sort du lot tout de même… « Il faut prendre le top 100 mondial, regarder qui est encore disponible et essayer de prendre des coureurs qui sont capables de tirer leur épingle du jeu dès que la route s’élève, dans des courses par étapes d’une semaine. (…) Il nous faut un profil à la Miguel Angel Lopez, alors ça peut être lui ou pas, je sais qu’il est en discussion avec d’autres équipes. Il doit peut-être même être en mesure d’annoncer, mais c’est un profil à Lopez qu’il nous faut clairement » Recruter « Superman » serait un énorme coup, mais selon Cyclingnews, le Colombien serait tout proche de faire son retour chez Astana, après la rupture de son contrat chez Movistar.
