New York has seen relatively little snowfall this year, but the state is still one of the snowiest in the United States
Five of the snowiest parts of the United States are found in upstate New York, according to a new study. However, this winter has seen relatively little snowfall, not only in New York but in the northeastern United States in general.
Syracuse, which was generally known to be the snowiest largest city in the United States, best exemplifies this trend of warmer winters. The area only saw 28 inches of snow by Valentine’s Day, which was a huge 60 inches less than usual.
Likewise, the New York city of Rochester was down 3 feet and Buffalo saw a 15-inch reduction. Despite the relatively paltry recent amounts of snow, The Empire State is still home to five of the snowiest parts of the United States.
A study commissioned by Lawn Love, which is a lawn care service company, ranked the snowiest counties in the United States. Erie County, where Buffalo is located, ranks as No. 6 among 256 counties in the country.
The four other New York counties that made the list were:
- Onondaga County at 18t
- Broome County at 22
- Albany County at 30
- Monroe County at 48
The rankings were created by studying data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for 256 counties. The data encompasses historical snowfall, while also taking into consideration particularly cold days.
Unsurprisingly, the Valdez-Cordova county in Alaska was listed as the snowiest county in the United States. Monroe County, meanwhile, was the least snowiest county.
