met office warns of february freeze as 572-mile 'wall of snow' forecast

Snow could cause disruption in February

Britain is bracing for a 572-mile “wall” of snow, according to the latest weather forecast. WXCharts’ new maps show a large band of wintry weather sweeping in on February 10, bringing snow from Manchester to Lerwick in Scotland.

Northern Ireland will also feel the chill, with this snow blast expected to be the most severe since last week’s Arctic plunge. This caused travel chaos and school closures across the UK. Over the next two weeks, Scotland could see more isolated snow showers, especially over higher ground.

Looking ahead, the Met Office predicts warmer than average conditions for the rest of January, before it turns cold again midway through February – raising the risk of more snow.

Speaking to the Mirror, senior spokesman Stephen Dixon said the “unusually mild” temperatures we’ve been enjoying – including highs of 14C on Thursday afternoon in the southeast – are set to change next month due to the arrival of a new mass of Arctic air. Mr Dixon added: “Signals point to the chance of a cold spell and snow in mid and late February in the North.”

The Met Office’s forecast from February 9 to February 23 suggests mixed weather. It reads: “Through the middle of February, changeable conditions are most likely with the wettest and windiest conditions in the north and northwest. It is likely to be drier further southeast, although some wet and windy spells are still possible here. Later in the month there is an increasing likelihood of winds from the north or east, which will increase the chance of some colder spells and perhaps snow.”

After recent storms, there’s good news as no major storms are expected this week. Mr Dixon mentioned that named storms often come with amber wind alerts, but none are predicted soon.
