Cowboys’ Tony Pollard Is Now Under Contract

The Dallas Cowboys’ backfield, a significant question mark entering the offseason, finally seems to have crystallized for 2023.

In addition to releasing longtime star Ezekiel Elliott, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on running back Tony Pollard earlier this month.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pollard has now officially signed the one-year contract. While he and the team will work to reach a multi-year agreement — with a deadline of July 17 to do so — Pollard will still play for the Cowboys and receive nearly $10.1 million if no new deal emerges.

Pollard broke out with a career season in 2023, rushing for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns and adding another 371 yards and three scores through the air. It marked his first career 1,000-yard campaign and earned him his first Pro Bowl invite.

With Elliott off the roster, Pollard should take on an even larger role next season.

The Cowboys have secured some depth behind him in recent days, as well. The team added former Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones on Tuesday and re-signed reserve Rico Dowdle, as well.

Pollard is one of several notable running backs around the NFL to receive the franchise tag this offseason, along with Saquon Barkley of the Giants and Josh Jacobs of the Raiders.
