Groovin The Moo has cancelled its annual regional tour for 2024, two months before the festival was due to kick off in South Australia.

The festival’s team said that ticket sales haven’t been strong enough to hold the tour this year and those who have bought tickets will be automatically refunded. It becomes the latest Australian festival severely affected by the cost of living crisis.

“We are extremely disappointed to announce that the Groovin the Moo 2024 tour has been forced to cancel,” the festival said.

“Ticket sales have not been sufficient to deliver a regional festival of this kind. All tickets will be refunded automatically.

“Thank you to everybody who has supported the festival. We hope to be able to bring Groovin the Moo back to regional communities in the future.”

Groovin The Moo had tapped Mura Masa, The Beaches, The Kooks, Claire Rosinkranz and more for this year’s festival. It was set to begin in late April and run through until mid-May, hitting venues in Canberra, Bendigo, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast and Bunbury.

It is the second time the festival has had to cancel its dates in its 19 years of bringing big tunes to regional spaces around Australia.

After running yearly from 2005 to 2019, the festival canned its events in 2020 and 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns.

Over the years Groovin The Moo has brought big international artists like Alt-J, Denzel Curry, Channel Tres, Billie Eilish, Sofi Tukker, The Wombats, Charli XCX, Disclosure and heaps more to fans outside of major cities.

Groovin The Moo said it hopes to return to the regions in future years considering it’s a vital part of bringing live music to regional punters.
