Country at risk of collapse if individuals in power act greedily

SHAH ALAM – The selfish and self-centred attitude of some individuals in positions of power, which they misuse for personal gain, can easily lead a country to collapse.

Kedah Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM) secretary Abdul Rahman Solehuddin Mohd Zain said that to address this issue, the government needed to be more serious and establish strict policies to prevent bribery or corruption activities.

“The government’s ability to reform in this regard is greatly believed to be assisted by various non-governmental organisations such as ABIM, Rasuah Busters of Sinar Harian, and others.

“The community also needs to unite in warning those who still refuse to abandon this disgusting culture.

“There is no excuse for allowing corruption activities to continue to thrive and spread,” he told Sinar.

Previously, the media reported that a manager of the Farmers’ Organisation in the area was fined RM15,000 by the Special Corruption Court in Tawau, Sabah, after pleading guilty to receiving bribes amounting to more than RM8,000 five years ago.

The sentence was handed down by Judge Jason Juga after the accused, Ahmad Rudi Abdul Rashid, 50, pleaded guilty.

Rahman added that his organisation monitored all government efforts to combat corruption, but it had not reached the grassroots level.

“Many people are still deceived by terms that blur criminal acts, such as the term ‘coffee money’ or ‘rib punch,’ allegedly aimed at reciprocating favours,” he added.
