PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested four people following the death of a nine-month-old baby girl, believed to be from abuse, in Johor Bahru.
Johor Bahru Utara police chief Balveer Singh said all of them, aged between 29 and 42, were arrested at several locations around the city last Thursday, Bernama reported
Police began investigations after receiving a report from a medical officer at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital about suspected abuse involving a baby girl admitted to the intensive care unit.
“The infant was confirmed dead the following morning at 3.50am. The results of the autopsy revealed criminal elements in her death,” Balveer said in a statement last night.
He said two of those arrested were the baby’s guardians, a local married couple.
Police are waiting to speak to the baby’s mother, who is a Vietnamese woman.
Those detained have been remanded for six days from last Friday. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect.
