Kolkata: Sukanta Majumdar, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party president, sustained injuries and was hospitalised after falling from his car as party workers clashed with police personnel. Notably, BJP workers were being stopped from entering Sandeshkhali, where women have been agitating over alleged atrocities committed against them by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shajahan Sheikh and his aides.

The West Bengal BJP president lost balance and fell on the car’s bonnet on which he was standing while addressing reporters in North 24 Parganas district. He was later admitted to Basirhat multi-facility hospital.

Who Is Sukanta Majumdar?

Born in December 1979, Sukanta Majumdar is a Lok Sabha MP from the Balurghat constituency in West Bengal. Majumdar became a Sangh worker under the guidance of his mentor Debi Das Chaudhuri who is a former president of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh.

He became the first-time parliamentarian from the Balurghat after defeating Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Arpita Ghosh with a margin of 33,293 votes. He was later elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2018 general election as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Majumdar was then named as the president of West Bengal BJP on September 20, 2021 succeeding Dilip Ghosh.
