COP28 opens in Dubai, amid global warming with ever more dangerous consequences (UN)

(By Meriem Khadraoui/TAP)- The 28th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 28) kicked off on Thursday in Dubai, at a time when the UN is warning of “a disastrous warming of up to 2.9°C this century,” for lack of sufficient climate commitments.
Tunisia, a signatory to the Paris Agreement and the various agreements and protocols aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change, and one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, will be represented at this conference by a delegation made up of representatives of ministries and civil society.
Its participation will be marked by a parallel event (on December 2, 2023), at which Tunisian start-ups will present their technological and innovative solutions to problems associated with climate change.
More than 60,000 people are expected at this 28th event, which will run until December 12, 2023. This year’s event will focus on assessing the climate commitments made by nearly 200 countries at previous meetings organised under the aegis of the United Nations.
