VALKENSWAARD – The cooling company Smeva group from Valkenswaard has been awarded the Royal designation. The province of Noord-Brabant reports this on Friday evening.
A counter at the butcher or fishmonger with meat or fish, a refrigerator compartment in the supermarket with dairy products or a freezer compartment with ice creams at the gas station. Many people have often seen a Smeva product without knowing it.
The company celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. A century ago, Marcelis Smets, grandfather of the current director Charles Smets, founded De Nijverheid steam furniture factory in Valkenswaard in May 1920. Three years after its foundation, the name changes to Smeva, which stands for Smets Valkenswaard. It will become a manufacturer of innovative refrigeration and freezing solutions that, for example, every supermarket visitor in the Netherlands and beyond encounters on a daily basis.
Corona caused a postponed centenary that was celebrated in the Evoluon on Friday. The King’s Commissioner Ina Adema presented the designation ‘Royal’ to Charles Smets and Henk Dibbets.
The Royal Predicate is an award that can be awarded to associations, foundations, institutions or large companies. It symbolizes the King’s respect, appreciation and trust towards the recipient and does not imply that the company concerned is a supplier or has any other relationship with the Royal House.
