The Masters 2024 LIVE: Leaderboard and latest updates as McIlroy chases Scheffler and DeChambeau

LIVE – Updated at 20:54

Bryson DeChambeau set the round one pace at The Masters as the LIV golfer topped the opening day leaderboard at Augusta National. The big-hitting DeChambeau survived blustery conditions at the first men’s major of the year to shoot an outstanding 65 at a course where he has enjoyed limited success in the past.

Leading the chasers is Scottie Scheffler, continuing his excellent form with a smooth 66 to finish six-under. The PGA Tour’s dominant player and 2022 green jacket winner had arrived at Augusta as the favourite to add a second Masters crown to his collection and produced a typically composed and confident round. Rory McIlroy signed for a 71 after bouncing back from a slow start, while bogeys at the last two holes left Jon Rahm, the defending champion, at one-over. The surprise of the day, though, was Danny Willett — playing his first tournament since shoulder surgery just six months ago, the 2016 Masters winner produced a lovely 68 to suggest another enjoyable weekend on the immaculate Georgia course.

Tiger Woods made a solid start after the five-time winner said that he’s targeting “one more green jacket” to take him to 16 major titles, despite the pain he faces on the vast majority of shots at Augusta. He, and a number of other players, will conclude their first round on Friday after fading light forced a curtailment to Thursday’s play.

Amen Corner takes another victim

20:52 , Ben Fleming

Double bogey at 10 followed by double bogey at 11 means the Canadian has tumbled down the leaderboard. He was just three off the lead about an hour ago.

Wonderful from Homa

20:50 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (17), Homa -6 (17), Day +3 (17)

The American summons memories of Sandy Lyle all those years ago as he flies a superb downwind bunker shot over the pin, using the slope to pull his back towards the hole. A great chance for birdie to end an excellent round.

Woods leaks his out to the right and will have work to do to save his par.

Short-game magic from Scheffler

20:47 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (6), McIlroy E (6), Schauffele E (6)

Just exquisite from Scheffler as his chip rolls out to within a few inches on the par-3 sixth. He knocks that in for par, as do McIlroy and Schauffele.

DeChambeau back at the top

20:44 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7 (12)

A gutsy response from the American after the dropped shot at 11 as he flies his tee shot right over the flag at the par-3 12th. A tricky little putt down the slope but it’s right in the heart for Bryson who takes back the solo lead heading into the two par 5s at 13 and 15.

Aberg on the charge

20:42 , Ben Fleming

Aberg -4 (16)

The young Swede is putting together the round of the day and moves within three of the lead as he pours in a birdie at the par-3 16th. A major championship debut but not even a sniff of nerves.

Rahm in trouble

20:38 , Ben Fleming

Rahm +3 (6)

The Spaniard’s defence of his title is sinking without a trace as he makes his second bogey of the day at the par-3 sixth. He’s just not looked the same this week – perhaps that’s the green jacket weighing heavy on his shoulders.

Woods heads down the last

20:36 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (17), Homa -6 (17), Day +3 (17)

Woods has work to do to save his par but does so expertly to keep himself at level par for the round.

Homa, meanwhile, now finds himself in a three-way tie for the lead but shows no signs of nerves as he, too knocks in a par. An uber-consistent display from him today.

Day also makes par as this group heads to the 18th tee.

Bogeys for McIlroy and Scheffler

20:34 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (5), McIlroy E (5), Schauffele E (5)

Well, Scottie’s lead didn’t last long! His last year was plagued with misses like that and the putter comes back to haunt him yet again as he misses a tiddler for his par.

McIlroy, meanwhile, makes a mess of the fifth, flying his third shot over the back of the green and leaving himself a testing bogey putt. It’s a good recovery from the Northern Irishman in the end but a first backwards step for the 34-year-old

Schauffele with a much-more regulation par.

DeChambeau drops back

20:30 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -6 (11)

The 11th is proving a tricky customer today, which might not come as a great surprise. Bryson bails out to the right with this second – in a similar manner to Homa earlier – and he too can’t get up and down to save his par.

Scheffler has the solo lead, then.

Bogey for Willett

20:24 , Ben Fleming

Willett -4 (12)

The Englishman’s tee shot flies through the back at the par-3 12th and it’s an uphill putter from there. Willett opts for the flat stick but can’t get it down in two to save his par.

Pars all round on 16

20:17 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (16), Homa -6 (16), Day +3 (16)

A couple of stellar approaches from Woods and Homa into this 16th green. Homa has the better of the chances but can’t get his to drop. Still, a par does him no harm.

Woods now has just two holes to navigate, with the projected cut line now at +5. Barring a catastrophe in the closing stages, the 15-time major champion should be at Augusta for a record 24th consecutive week.

Par for DeChambeau

20:11 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7 (10)

It’s a solid start to Amen Corner for the co-leader, knocking in a steady par to remain at -7. After a somewhat shakey start, he’s looked a lot more solid in recent holes.

Good saves from Scheffler and McIlroy

20:09 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -7 (4), McIlroy -1 (4), Schauffele E (4)

Both McIlroy and Scheffler leak their tee shots out to the left on this par-3 fourth but it’s two splendid chips to ensure neither will drop a shot early in the round.

A solid start for all three as they move on to the testing fifth.

Bounce-back birdie for Woods

20:07 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (15), Homa -6 (15), Day +3 (15)

Just remarkable from Woods. Much has been rightly made of his injury-plagued condition but he shows no sign of it there, unleashing two monster blows to reach the par-5 15th in two. The eagle evades him but a timely birdie gets him back to even par for the round.

Homa’s birdie putt flies past the hole but he’ll knock that in for a birdie to stay just one back. Day remains one shot above the cut line as he, too, makes par.

Fox moves within three

20:04 , Ben Fleming

Fox -4 (8)

A really steady start from the Kiwi is rewarded with a birdie at the par-5 eighth to move him up to -4 and within three of the lead. That’ll do very nicely.

Aberg making a move

20:01 , Ben Fleming

Aberg -2 (13)

What a stellar run this is from the Swede who has now made four birdies in his last six holes. It’s a rip-roaring drive down the par-5 13th which allows him to reach the green in two.

A good lag putt allows him a look at birdie and he makes no mistake. The Masters debutant moves into the top ten.

Bogey-bogey finish for Hojgaard

19:56 , Ben Fleming

Hojgaard -4 (73)

A shame for the young Dane who follows his bogey at the 17th with another at 18. The approach into the green comes up short but it’s a poor missed put to save par.

He’ll be disappointed by that but it’s still a very steady round in those tricky conditions. He won’t be too far off the lead by the end of today that is for sure.

Another good look at birdie for Scheffler

19:49 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -7 (3), McIlroy -1 (3), Schauffele E (3)

A superb shot from the sand from Scheffler gives him a great look at birdie but the effort evades him. Still, a promising start for Scheffler in the tricky conditions.

McIlroy lags a length putt past the hole but knocks in a superb par save to stay at -1. A confidence-boosting putt for him, that.

Homa holding steady; Woods makes bogey

19:46 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (14), Homa -6 (14), Day +3 (14)

Max sits just one back of the lead but I’m sure he’d be delighted if he could hang around that mark by the end of his round. A very tidy up and down from the back of 14 green means he saves par and stays at -6.

Woods, meanwhile, airmails the green with an uncharacteristically wild iron shot. He chips out to eight feet but the par-saving putt evades him. Back to +2 he goes – two above the cut mark with four to go.

DeChambeau misses out at the eighth

19:37 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7 (8)

The par-5s are proving far trickier than yesterday with the wind whirling around Augusta.

At the eighth, DeChambeau leaks his second out to the right and can’t get up and down for a birdie to remain at -7 and tied with Scheffler.

Birdie for Willett; bogey for Hojgaard

19:34 , Ben Fleming

Willett -5 (10), Hojgaard -5 (17)

The tournament just keeps better for Willett as he produces a dart of an iron into the tricky 10th. That’s a kick-in birdie for the Englishman to go under par for his round and move just two off the lead.

He’s joined there by Nicolai Hojgaard after a wayward tee shot means he drops a shot at the penultimate hole.

Scheffler joins DeChambeau at the top

19:32 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -7 (2), McIlroy -1 (2), Schauffele E (2)

A masterclass in how to deal with a par-5 from Scheffler as he unleashes two healthy blows down the second before chipping close and tapping in for an easy birdie.

He’s at the top now alongside DeCheambeau and looking really good.

McIlroy and Schauffele, meanwhile, make their pars.

13th hole proving tricky

19:29 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (13), Homa -6 (13), Day +3 (13)

The pin is right back on the 13th green at the top of a plateau and it’s far from easy to get to. All three lay up but can’t judge the distance right with their wedge efforts and have to settle with pars.

Spieth running out of time

19:22 , Ben Fleming

Aberg E (11), Spieth +8 (11), Theegala +4 (11)

Spieth makes an untimely bogey at the 11th and he needs to go at least -4 thru his final seven holes, you would suspect, to make the weekend. Theegala is sitting on the likely cutline right now, while Aberg holed a nice par save to keep him at level par and just outside the top 20.

Willett makes the turn

19:14 , Ben Fleming

Willett -4 (9)

Another solid par for Willett who makes the turn in even par. It’s worth repeating that this is his first competitive start in over six months and he’s just three back of the lead.

Can he navigate Amen Corner and cash in with some birdies coming in?

Homa, Woods and Day through Amen Corner

19:08 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (12), Homa -6 (12), Day +3 (12)

Great approaches into the par-three 12th for Homa and Day and both two-putt for their par. Woods is in a slight spot of bother but showcases his touch around Augusta once again to save par and remain at +1.

All three negotiated Amen Corner well enough and will now look to find some birdies at 13 and 15.

Scheffler misses out

19:07 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6 (1), McIlroy -1 (1), Schauffele E (1)

He’s going to give himself a lot of looks if he keeps hitting his irons like that. A superb approach but he pushes his birdie effort just out to the right.

McIlroy’s tee shot ended up in the fairway bunker but he does well to muscle it out from an awkward lie to the green. It’s a length downhill putt which almost threatens to drop in but it races just past the hole.

He knocks in for his par as does Schauffele and on to the second they go.

DeChambeau back to the top

19:03 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7 (7)

A much-needed boost for the American who sees his name back at the top of the leaderboard as he pours in a great birdie at the seventh. The par-5 eighth to come, too, so a chance for back-to-back birdies.

Conners and Fox starting steady

19:01 , Ben Fleming

Conners -3 (5), Fox -3 (5)

The bigger names may be stealing the limelight but Corey Conners and Ryan Fox are going about their business nicely and both sit just three shots back of the lead. Conners with a birdie at the second, while Fox starts with five straight pars.

Eagle for Willett!

18:57 , Ben Fleming

Willett -4 (8)

Well, that works! Willett holes out from the fairway at the par-5 eighth for a huge eagle that propels him up into fifth and just two back of the lead.

He’s hanging in there is the 2016 champion.

Scheffler and McIlroy underway

18:54 , Ben Fleming

Scheffler -6, McIlroy -1, Schauffele E

So here we go. The World No. 1 Scheffler is ready to begin his second round. He’s looked imperious in recent months but faces Augusta at it’s most fearsome today with the winds up and greens firm.

He finds the fairway with a beauty of a drive, while McIlroy and Schauffele are out on the right side. The latter two need to make a move today but the course is playing tricky so they’ll have to avoid getting too gready.

Four-way tie at the top

18:50 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (11), Homa -6 (11), Day +3 (11)

Well, all of a sudden that Hojgaard birdie looks even better. He’s now into a share of the lead as Homa fails to save his par at the 11th.

The American bails right into the tricky 11th green and can’t get up and down to save his par.

Day, too, can’t save his par and drops back to +3 but it’s another bit of short-game magic from Woods to save his par and remain at +1.

Another birdie for Hojgaard

18:48 , Ben Fleming

Hojgaard -6 (14)

Nervless stuff from Hojgaard as a sparkling iron shot into the 14th is rewarded with a second successive birdie for the Dane that propels him to within one of the lead.

What a debut this is.

Missed birdie chance for DeChambeau

18:44 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -6 (6)

For a putter of his standard, that birdie attempt is tame from Bryson, to put it mildly. The ball peeters out to the right and well short of the hole from a makeable range.

The American still struggling to get going in this second round.

Double-bogey for Young

18:34 , Ben Fleming

Young -2 (11)

He’d been chugging along nicely had Young but an errant approach shot into the 11th ends up in the water and it’s a costly mistake for the American.

A double-bogey six moves him back to -2 but he’s got the two par 5s coming up to try and bounce back.

Good par save for Bryson

18:32 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -6 (5)

A poor iron shot from the middle of the fairway leeks out to the left and leaves him a potentially treacherous two-putt across the slope. It’s well negotiated, though, from DeChambeau as he gets down in two to stay within one of Homa.

Hojgaard within two

18:30 , Ben Fleming

Hojgaard -5 (13)

The Dane continues to hang around, reaching the par-5 13th in two before lagging his eagle putt up to the hole for a tap-in birdie.

Just two back of Homa and a with a couple more chances coming in.

Pars all round

18:26 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (10), Homa -7 (10), Day +2 (10)

All three negotiate the tricky tenth well, Homa, in particular, lagging a tricky putt down the slope superbly to secure his par.

Back-to-back birdies for Aberg

18:24 , Ben Fleming

Aberg E (9)

Theegala and Spieth are struggling around him but the Swede has battled back after bogeys at five and six.

A birdie at the par-5 eighth is followed up with a superb approach into the ninth which leaves him a tap-in birdie to get back to even par for the tournament. Great stuff from the Masters debutant.

Amen Corner nightmare for Watson

18:22 , Ben Fleming

Watson + 10 (12)

Amen Corner claims its first victim in the form of two-time past champion Bubba Watson. The American was +2 as he made the turn but now sits at +10 as he heads to the 13th tee.

Double-bogey six at the 10th.

Quadruple-bogey eight at the 11th.

Double-bogey five at the 12th.

Ouch.

Davis in the clubhouse

18:18 , Ben Fleming

Davis -3 (72)

The Australian is one of the first back in the clubhouse and it’s a hard-fought 72 for the Australian that will leave him right in the mix come the weekend.

Bogey for DeChambeau

18:14 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -6 (4)

Not the start Bryson would have had in mind as a wild tee shot into the par-3 fourth has him scrambling to save his par. The American can’t manage it and drops back alongside Scheffler at -6.

We have a new solo leader in Max Homa.

Double bogey for Willett

18:08 , Ben Fleming

Willett -2 (5)

Ah, that’s less than ideal for Willett as his approach into the fifth kicks off the downslope and goes into the bushes beyond the green. The Englishman can only hack out from there and is unable to get up and down to avoid a double-bogey.

Co-leader Homa makes the turn

18:06 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (9), Homa -7 (9), Day +2 (9)

Homa’s ball-striking has remained excellent so far this round and it’s giving him plenty of looks at birdie. A slippery one at the ninth doesn’t quite drop but it’s a bogey-free 34 on the front nine for the co-leader.

Day, meanwhile, finally gets one to drop, ending his eight-hole par streak with a vital birdie to move him closer to even par.

Woods makes a battling par – his first since the second hole – to card an even-par first nine. The projected cut mark sits at +3 so he’s got a couple of shots to work with as things stand.

Three straight pars from DeChambeau

18:01 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7 (3)

A more solid hole from the co-leader who gives himself a good look at birdie but his attempt from around 12 feet just drifts past on the left side.

Greg Norman spotted again

18:00 , Ben Fleming

The LIV Golf commissioner was a surprise sighting on the grounds at Augusta National on Wednesday having bought his own ticket after he was denied an invite.

The Aussie was seen following Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler yesterday and is back on the grounds again today:

Bogeys for Young and Hojgaard

17:52 , Ben Fleming

Hojgaard -4 (11), Young -4 (9)

A topsy-turvy few holes for these two and they both make bogey at their latest respective holes.

Hojgaard’s drive is the cause of his trouble on the 11th, while Young can’t get up and down from greenside to save his par at the ninth.

Bounce-back for Tiger

17:45 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (8), Homa -7 (8), Day +3 (8)

Day and Homa get themselves in trouble off the tee and, in the end, have to both settle for pars at the getable par-5 eighth.

Woods, though, shows them how it’s done, with a perfectly executed takedown of the hole. A superb chip grips and stops close to the pin and it’s a mere kick-in for the birdie – his third of the day – to get him back to +1 again.

Sloppy from Bryson

17:40 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7 (2)

An uncharacteristically poor drive from the American gets him in a tricky spot down the left at the second. His second leaves him short of the green and short-sighted as the chip lands in the bunker.

He does well to recover, though, getting up and down from the sand to save his par but it’s a somewhat sluggish start so far from the co-leader.

Young back up to fourth

17:34 , Ben Fleming

Young -5 (8)

The American bogeyed the seventh but gets a birdie right back at the very next hole after a nice wedge into the par-5 eighth. He’s back into a share of fourth alongside Hojgaard.

Willett bounces back

17:29 , Ben Fleming

Willett -4 (2)

He missed out on a birdie at the par-5 second but a fine approach into the third gives the Englishman a great look at birdie and he makes no mistake this time.

A great response after the opening-hole bogey.

Back-to-back birdies for Hojgaard

17:27 , Ben Fleming

Hojgaard -5 (10)

You won’t see too many birdies today at the tenth today but the Dane finds one with a snaking left-to-right uphill putt at the opening hole of Amen corner.

Back to even par for his second round and up into solo fourth now.

Topsy-turvy round for Woods continues

17:21 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (7), Homa -7 (7), Day +3 (7)

Ah, another short(ish) putt slides by for Tiger as he fails to save his par. His last par came at the second and he’s made three bogeys and two birdies in that time.

Day makes his save from the sand, while Homa races his birdie putt past the hole but makes the come-backer for a par.

Magical from Max

17:17 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (7), Homa -7 (7), Day +3 (7)

The first signs of trouble for Homa as his drive off the seventh leeks to the right but it’s a magical second from the rough, fading it over the bunkers and into the heart of the green. A chance for birdie now.

Both Woods and Day, meanwhile, end up short in the bunker and have work to do to save their pars.

Bryson up and running

17:14 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7 (1)

A poor second from the middle of the fairway gives DeChambeau some work to do to save his par at the first. In the end, it’s done well by the American and it’s a simple tap-in par putt.

The par-5 second coming up now.

Take note of Taylor

17:06 , Ben Fleming

Moore -4 (2)

Out of nowhere, the American shoots into a tie for fifth with a birdie-eagle start to his round, the latter a remarkable chip-in from long of the par-5 second green!

He moves to -4 where he’s joined by Hojgaard who gets a birde back at the ninth following consecutive bogeys at 5 and 6.

Chip-in birdie for Tiger

17:02 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (6), Homa -7 (6), Day +3 (6)

Now, that’s how you bounce back from consecutive bogeys! Tiger’s tee shot comes up just short but it’s a wonderful chip from the greenside and a hugely important birdie to get him back to level par for his second round

Stress-free pars for Homa and Day.

DeChambeau gets underway

16:58 , Ben Fleming

DeChambeau -7, Woodland +4, Olesen -1

So, a huge afternoon for DeChambeau who got out early yesterday and posted a great score but now has to follow that up with everyone watching on.

It’s a great start for the American – playing alongside Woodland and Olesen – as he smokes one down the middle of the first fairway.

Watch out for Cam Young

16:54 , Ben Fleming

Young -5 (6)

The featured group cameras aren’t picking up much of the American but Young is flying. His third birdie of the day after a superb tee shot into the par-3 sixth and he’s now just two back of the leaders.

Back-to-back bogeys for Woods

16:50 , Ben Fleming

Woods +2 (5), Homa -7 (5), Day +3 (5)

Oh, Tiger, you can’t leave it short! Woods looks to save his par at the fifth but his putt just runs out of steam at the end. A second consecutive bogey after a birdie on the third and he’s in a fight now to make the cut.

Homa, meanwhile, also has a testy par save…makes it! Nerveless stuff from the co-leader who lets out a fist pump as the ball drops into the hole. He looks in the mood today.

Opening-hole bogey for Willett

16:48 , Ben Fleming

Willett -3 (1)

The 2016 champion surpassed all expectations with a four-under-par 68 on Thursday in his first competitive round since shoulder surgery last September.

His second round doesn’t get off to the best start, though, as a costly drive sees him drop a shot.

Work to do for Woods and Homa

16:44 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (4), Homa -7 (4), Day +3 (4)

Both find the bunker with their drives on the fifth and are forced to lay up out of the sand into this tricky, undulating green.

A couple of important par saves coming up for them.

Triple bogey for Theegala

16:42 , Ben Fleming

Spieth +7 (3), Aberg E (3), Theegala +5 (3)

Theegala really has a fight on his hands to make the cut now after a slew of errors with the wedge in hand leads to a triple-bogey seven on the third.

Homa joins the lead; Woods makes bogey

16:29 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (4), Homa -7 (4), Day +3 (4)

Wow! What a putt from Homa, pouring in his birdie effort from 36 feet at the par-3 fourth. He joins DeChambeau at the top of the leaderboard.

Woods, meanwhile, gifts a shot back after his birdie the hole prior. An errant tee shot is the cause and he can’t get up and down from left of the green to remain level par.

Day was in a similar spot to Woods but he manages to save his par to remain at +3.

Birdies for Spieth and Aberg

16:24 , Ben Fleming

Spieth +7 (2), Aberg E (2), Theegala +2 (2)

Both Spieth and Aberg take care of the par-5 second to get their first birdies of the round, while Theegala’s effort is left out to the right side.

Much-needed for Spieth after his bogey on the first but plenty more work to do for the American to have a chance of making the weekend.

Back-to-back bogeys for Hojgaard

16:17 , Ben Fleming

Hojgaard -3 (6)

The Dane compounds one bogey into another after a poor tee shot at the par-3 sixth. The gettable par-5 eighth, though, to come soon for the 23-year-old to get one back.

Woods back to level par

16:14 , Ben Fleming

Woods E (3), Homa -6 (3), Day +3 (3)

A divine wedge into the third green gives Woods another good look at birdie and he makes no mistake this time to get himself back to level par for the tournament. A good start.

Homa and Day’s birdie chances go begging so it’s a pair of pars for them.

Pavon joins the party at -4

16:08 , Ben Fleming

Pavon -4 (4)

You’ll struggle to see many better tee shots into the par-3 fourth than that today from the Frenchman – delightful.

He nurses in the putt for birdie and he’s up alongside Hojgaard, Willett and Young at -4.

All falling apart for Spieth

16:04 , Ben Fleming

Spieth +8 (1), Aberg +1 (1), Theegala +2 (1)

It’s not looking pretty for Spieth out there as he bogeys his first hole of the second round to drop further off the pace. The 2015 champion is now ahead of just five players as he slips back to a tie for 81st.

Playing partners Aberg and Theegala make their pars.

Back-to-back birdies for Young

16:02 , Ben Fleming

Young -4 (3)

Well, there’s another birdie for Young at the third and suddenly he’s up into a tie for fourth. He finished second at the Valspar Championship in his last start a few weeks back and looks to have brought that form with him to Augusta so far.

Bogey for Hojgaard

16:01 , Ben Fleming

Hojgaard -4 (5)

Ah, that’s a real bummer for the Dane who did so superbly to recover from a poor drive off the fifth tee. A superb wedge in gave him a great look at par but he can’t convert the chance and he drops back to -4.

Woods misses out but Homa up to second

15:59 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (2), Homa -6 (2), Day +3 (2)

Woods has a 12-footer for a birdie at the second but leaves it just short and right in the jaw of the hole. A gut-wrenching miss for the American who misses a great chance to get back to level par for the tournament.

It’s a tame stroke, too, from Day who also settles for par.

Homa makes no mistake, though, pouring in his birdie attempt from a similar range to Day’s. He’s up into a tie for second now alongside Scheffler.

Young and Pavon moving up

15:54 , Ben Fleming

Young -3 (2), Pavon -3 (3)

Cam Young has an impressive major record and gets off to a solid start in the second round with a birdie at the second.

Pavon, playing just ahead of him, does the same, and he’s looking really solid in what is his maiden Masters appearance.

Woods out of position on the second

15:48 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (1), Homa -5 (1), Day +3 (1)

The American sprays it right and long as he looks to get on the par-5 green in two. It’s not a bad spot to miss through and he can still make birdie from there.

Homa is safely aboard on the dancefloor and has a long, long look at eagle.

Hatton back in the red

15:41 , Ben Fleming

Hatton -1 (2)

A poor end to the Englishman’s first round this morning undid a lot of great work yesterday afternoon, but Hatton is back under par for the tournament as he notches up a birdie at the par-5 second.

No drama on the first

15:40 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1 (1), Homa -5 (1), Day +3 (1)

All three aboard the green in regulation but nothing more than outside looks at birdie and they’re all happy to two-putt for par before heading off to the par-5 second.

Davis sneaking under the radar

15:31 , Ben Fleming

Davis -4 (8)

The Australian notched up a T4 at last year’s US PGA Championship and is sneaking under the radar here yet again. A double bogey on seven is sandwiched between two birdies at six and eight and leaves him up in T5 alongside Willett at -4.

Woods back underway

15:28 , Ben Fleming

Woods +1, Homa -5, Day +3

These three finished off their first round under an hour ago but are back out there again for their early second-round tee time.

There will, undoubtedly, be questions about how Woods’ body will hold up with the extra demands put on it today but it’s a nice tee shot to get him going.

Homa, meanwhile, has a real chance to put some early pressure on Scheffler and DeChambeau, while Day needs a bright start to aid his efforts of making the cut.

Second round tee times

15:23 , Ben Fleming

Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to this afternoon (all times BST):

15:42 Jordan Spieth, Ludvig Aberg, Sahith Theegala

15:54 Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood

16:54 Gary Woodland, Thorbjorn Olesen (Den), Bryson DeChambeau

18:36 Jon Rahm, Matt Fitzpatrick, Nick Dunlap

18:48 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele

-6 Scheffler (66),

-5 Hojgaard (67), Homa (67),

-4 Willett (68),

-3 Davis (7*), Fox (69).

Bogey-bogey finish for Fleetwood

15:09 , Ben Fleming

A shame for the Englishman who was building a nice round at the turn but a birdie-free back nine featuring three bogeys sees him conclude his first round at level par.

Collin Morikawa, meanwhile, rolls in a lengthy to finish up at -1, while Dustin Johnson’s first round ends with a bogey. He’s facing a fight to make the cut after a six-over-par first round.

Spieth concludes with a par

14:58 , Mike Jones

“Get me another ball Mikey,” Jordan Spieth told his caddie Michael Greller after an errant tee shot on the 18th flies into the trees.

Coming off a bogey on the 17th, which sees him drop a sixth shot gone in four holes, Spieth’s second shot is way left of the green having found the first drive.

He chips two feet and pars the last for an opening round of +7.

Harman drops to last place

14:52 , Mike Jones

Brian Harman has had a nightmare this morning.

He resumed his first round from the 13th after posting 34 on the front nine yesterday for -2. He came into the morning on level par but posted three double bogeys and a treble over the next six holed.

The reigning Open champion came back in 47. He’s got to brush that from his mind though as he’s back out on the course in 40 minutes.

-7 DeChambeau (65),

-3 Fox (69).

Homa posts five-under first round

14:39 , Mike Jones

Max Homa, playing alongside Tiger Woods, has been peppering the pins this morning as he finished off his opening round. A wayward run down the last saw him record a bogey five though and he drops out of second place.

Still, it’s a great first round at -5 and he’ll be right in contention if he can attack the second round with the same confidence this afternoon.

Tiger Woods finishes opening round

14:32 , Mike Jones

Woods had to resume his first round this morning after plays was suspended due to poor light on Thursday evening. He had five holes left to play and a couple of dropped shots sees him head into the clubhouse one over par.

He’s currently eight shots behind Bryson DeChambeau and will be heading back onto the course this afternoon for round two.

Dustin Johnson makes back-to-back doubles

14:28 , Luke Baker

We talked about Jordan Spieth’s woes and another former Masters champion is also in trouble. Dustin Johnson double bogeys 14 and 15 to drop from +1 to +5 and out of contention. Frustrating for DJ.

Meanwhile, Jason Day bogeys the 18th and signs for a three-over round of 75.

The Masters 2024

14:21 , Luke Baker

Cameron Young rolls in a par putt on 18 to sign for a two-under round of 70. We’re slowly getting through those players who had to finish their first rounds.

Meanwhile, among the early second-round starters, amateur Neal Shipley is enjoying himself. He took advantage of the par-five 2nd to make birdie and then piped a drive at the 3rd and his pitch left him a tap-in birdie. He’s now at -3 for the championship and potentially on track to win the low amateur award.

Jordan Spieth takes NINE at the 15th

14:12 , Luke Baker

Hole 15 has seen Ludvig Aberg and Jordan Spieth both get their balls wet. It’s a par five but they both overspin their approaches and helplessly watch as the ball trickles down the bank into the drink. Aberg was at -1 and Spieth at +2 but they’ll both be dropping badly back. WOW! Aberg escapes with double bogey (+1) but Spieth takes NINE shots to card a quadruple bogey and he’s now at +6…

A bad morning for Tyrrell Hatton as he bogeys 18 to add to his double bogey at 15 and he’s gone from -3 overnight to level-par for the championship.

Max Homa joins Scottie Scheffler

14:03 , Luke Baker

Oh, Max Homa – that is spectacular! He’s about to move alongside Scottie Scheffler on -6, just a stroke behind Bryson DeChambeau after a stunner on 17. Leaves himself 156 yards to the pin after a smoked drive and clips a gorgeous pitching wedge to the right of the hole, spins it sideways and it comes to rest an inch from the hole.

Nearly a hole-out eagle but he’ll take a tap-in birdie! Seven birdies, one bogey as he heads to the 18th.

WATCH: Max Homa birdies the 16th to move to -5

13:57 , Luke Baker

Here’s how Max Homa reached five-under. Exquisite tee shot.

Cam Davis firing early in round two

13:56 , Luke Baker

Some of the round-two players are out on the course and the highest-placed is Australia’s Cam Davis. He’s a powerful individual and takes advantage of the par-five 2nd hole. A look at an eagle putt up the hill, leaves it short but rolls in the birdie to move to -4. A good start as he aims to build on yesterday’s round of 69.

Max Homa on the move

13:53 , Luke Baker

The likeable Max Homa has been dinged for a poor majors record but after a confidence-building top-10 finish at The Open last summer, he’s made a flying start at Augusta. Plays the par-three 16th sublimely with a gorgeous tee shot to within a few feet and rolls in the birdie putt.

He joins Nicolai Hojgaard at -5 in a tie for third. Smokes his drive on 17 down the fairway as well for good measure.

MASTERS LEADERBOARD

13:45 , Luke Baker

Things not looking too different to how they were overnight

-7 Bryson DeChambeau (65)

-6 Scottie Scheffler (66)

-5 Nicolai Hojgaard (67)

-4 Danny Willett (68), Max Homa (15)

-3 Ryan Fox (69), Cameron Davis (69)

-2 Corey Conners (70), Ben An (70), Joaquin Niemann (70), Will Zalatoris (70), Matthieu Pavon (17), Tommy Fleetwood (13)

Hojgaard in the clubhouse

13:42 , Luke Baker

A cracking round for Nicolai Hojgaard, who ties up with a fourth straight par for a 67 (or what Bryson DeChambeau calls par…) to sit at five-under and sole third on the leaderboard. You’d never know he hasn’t been at Augusta before!

A great start from the 23-year-old Dane who equals the best-ever first-round score by a European debutant at the Masters. A niche stat? Sure. But still impressive

Hojgaard with a good look at birdie on 17 after a sumptuous iron shot but his putt shaves the left edge and the Dane stays at -5. Kurt Kitayama has birdied the 16th to join the band of brothers at -2, five shots off the lead.

Aberg with a good chance to move to -3 at the 13th but it’s a weak putt and slips by, so he remains at -2

The Masters 2024

We’re still completing the first round but here are the pin positions for round two today

Hatton makes nightmare start

13:14 , Luke Baker

The par-five 15th hole has proved the undoing of Tyrrell Hatton here. The Englishman finds the water with his approach shot, meaning he’s pitching on to the green for five and takes two putts for a double bogey. From -3 to -1 in an instant for Hatton.

Meanwhile, Brooks Koepka sees a birdie putt slip by, while Nicolai Hojgaard pars the 16th to stay at -5, just two shots behind DeChambeau.

Tiger Woods back on the course

13:08 , Luke Baker

Tiger Woods is among those completing his first round this morning. A big ask for the 48-year-old to play 23 holes today – can his body withstand that much golf? He stripes his first tee shot of the day down the middle of the 14th fairway.

Ah, but then things go awry. His hand comes off the club on the iron shot, he chunks it and the ball lands short of the green. He can’t get up and down as the chip runs well by the hole. It’s a bogey and Tiger drops back to level-par for the tournament.

The players are back on the course to complete their first rounds. And then Lee Hodges, Adrian Meronk and Grayson Murray will be the first trio to tee off in their second round at 1pm BST.

Bryson DeChambeau is top of the leaderboard at -7 and those finishing their first round who are within striking distance include Nicolai Hojgaard (-5 thru 16), Max Homa (-4 thru 13), Tyrrell Hatton (-3 thru 14) and then Patrick Reed, Matthieu Pavon, Ludvig Aberg and Tommy Fleetwood at -2.
