At the latest Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which is set to be held on Saturday, the current political situation, including Lakhimpur violence, elections and defections of the recent past are likely to be the main focus.
The CWC meeting was convened after G23 members questioned the decision making process in the party. Discussion on upcoming polls and the current political situation is on top of the agenda for Saturday’s meeting.
The latest meeting is being held in the wake of Lakhimpur clashes on October 3 in which eight people lost their lives, including four farmers who were allegedly run over by an SUV belonging to the convoy of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra.
The CWC meeting will also discuss certain dissenting notes rising within the party over the exodus of young faces and the party’s poor electoral fortunes in recently-held polls in Assam, Kerala and Bengal.
The party leadership is also likely to decide on the schedule for electing the new Congress chief. Other than that, price rises and Chinese incursions on LAC are also likely to feature in the CWC meeting.

Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh CMs arrive
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his Chhattisgarh counterpart, Bhupesh Baghel, reached Delhi to attend the party’s working committee meeting.
Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel arrived in Delhi late on Friday. His visit to the national capital comes amidst rumours of infighting in the state’s Congress unit. There have been speculations of a possible leadership change, much like the Punjab way.
“I am going to attend Congress Working Committee meeting tomorrow, wherein upcoming Assembly elections, as well as organisational elections, will be discussed,” CM Bhupesh Baghel said, as quoted by news agency ANI, before leaving Raipur.

According to a PTI report, Ashok Gehlot is likely to discuss both the issues with Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the national capital.
