New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that the Congress “illegally imposed a reservation” for Muslims based on religion by “cutting into the reservation of backward castes like ST, SC, and OBC”, repeating his charge that the NDA will remove religion-based reservation in its third term at the Centre. The Home Minister made the assertion in an exclusive interview to Times Now Group Editor-In-Chief Navika Kumar amidst his busy campaigning for the ongoing crucial Lok Sabha election.
“Our Constitution does not agree with reservation based on religion. Our constitution has no provision for reservation based on religion. Congress has illegally imposed a reservation for appeasement politics that has given reservation to Muslims based on religion, cutting into the reservation of ST, SC, and OBC, and they are saying that we are lying, so I want them to clarify to the nation’s public. We will not do reservations based on religion, what is the fear,” he said.
The BJP want a democracy free from casteism, nepotism, corruption, and appeasement, Amit Shah said.
Asked that BJP’s alliance partner Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party kept an NDA manifesto that includes poll promises on minority appeasement, Amit Shah maintained that the BJP “does not support the theories of appeasement”.
“Look, that’s their manifesto now, but in our manifesto, we have declared it. We will not support anyone on this, this is clarity from our party,” he said.
The BJP leader also reiterated his charge that the Congress wanted to re-distribute the wealth of other castes to Muslims. “Absolutely, Manmohan Singh ji has said whether or not this country’s resources belong to minorities and specially Muslims,” he said.
He exuded confidence over an impeccable victory of NDA with a majority of over 400 seats. He also launched a scathing attack on rival Congress over several issues, including its election manifesto.
Amit Shah On ‘3 Crisis’ In Congress
The Congress, Amit Shah said, was facing three crises. “There is a crisis of candidates, a crisis of leaders, a crisis of intent, and a crisis of policy,” he said.
Targeting the Congress over its election manifesto, Shah compares it with the Muslim League. He questioned the grand old party for supporting minorities’ personal law.
Lok Sabha Elections:
A third of the total 543 Lok Sabha seats have completed polling in the two phases of the Lok Sabha elections till now.
Phase 3 of voting is scheduled for May 7, followed by phase 4 on May 13, phase 5 on May 20, phase 6 on May 25, and phase 7 on June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
