Where Detroit Lions rank in NFL offseason spending
The Detroit Lions entered the 2024 offseason with a solid roster, thus they didn’t have to do a ton in free agency. As a result, they are not among the biggest spenders of the offseason.
Per Spotrac, which tracked money spent on both free-agent signings and extensions, the Lions have doled out $96.7 million in total contract value this offseason, the ninth-lowest total in the NFL.
However, it’s worth noting that it appears Spotrac includes tight end Brock Wright’s restricted free-agent tender ($2.985 million), which has since been replaced by a three-year, $12 million deal after Detroit matched the offer sheet Wright signed with the 49ers.
Even with that added, the Lions’ rankings does not change.
There is a possibility the Lions dish out more money this offseason, though, as Detroit has some players who could get an extension in due time, like wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, cornerback Carlton Davis and defensive lineman Alim McNeill, for example.
As far as cap space is concerned, the Lions are sitting with $27.9 million in top-51 cap space, the eighth-most in the NFL.
