Commander sign a new quarterback

The Washington Commanders made a pretty significant move at the quarterback position this weekend when they selected reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night. But it looks like the team is adding another rookie quarterback, too.
According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Washington Commanders are signing former Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Sam Hartman as an undrafted rookie. But based on the contract the team offered him, it sounds like they plan for him to be on the roster for the long haul.
“The #Commanders gave former Notre Dame QB Sam Hartman one of the biggest guarantees among undrafted free agents: a $20,000 signing bonus and $225,000 base salary guarantee. A sign Hartman is in Washington’s plans for 2024,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
In addition to Daniels and Hartman, Washington also has quarterbacks Marcus Mariota, Jeff Driskel, and Jake Fromm under contract. It’s widely expected that Daniels will be the team’s starter and Mariota will serve as the backup, meaning Hartman will have a chance to compete with Driskel and Fromm for the third-string spot.
