Zach Parise signs with Wild rival Colorado Avalanche

Zach Parise, once a nemesis of the professional hockey team in Denver, has signed a one-year deal to play for the Colorado Avalanche.

The former Minnesota Wild star’s agreement with Colorado was speculated about earlier this week and on Friday evening the Avalanche made the signing official.

“We are excited to add Zach to our group,” said Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland, via a prepared statement. “Over his impressive NHL career, Zach has always been a highly competitive and driven forward who is hard to play against. We look forward to adding his veteran presence to our locker room.”

Parise, 39, has played against Colorado in 51 regular season games in his career and tallied 19 goals and 27 assists. His 27 assists against the Avs are tied for his most against any team in the NHL over his 18 years in the league.

Parise has not played yet this season after playing all 82 games each of the last two seasons with the New York Islanders, where he wound up after Minnesota bought out his contract following the 2020-21 season.

According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, Parise’s deal with Colorado is worth $825,000. He’s expected to begin playing after the All-Star break, which arrives next week.
