While some of Gleeson’s fans sympathised with him, many others were quick to point out it mattered little that he was fully vaccinated.
“Unfortunately it doesn’t matter if you’re fully vaccinated, you can still carry the virus. It protects you from having severe symptoms,” one person tweeted.
Another person wrote: “Vaccinated people can still become infected, infectious and transmit the virus. This isn’t about you, Tom.”
Another reply read: “WA has zero active Covid cases. We’d like to keep it that way thanks. Vaccination is irrelevant – you can still be infected.”
Gold Logie award-winning comedian Tom Gleeson has been turned away from Western Australia after arriving on a flight to Perth following the reinstatement of the hard border for NSW travellers.
“Just arrived in Perth to be told NSW residents aren’t allowed in,” Gleeson tweeted.
“I’ve visited no exposure sites, no hotspots and here’s the fun part … I’M FULLY VACCINATED! LOL! (Sorry for cancelled gigs Perth. I did my best.)”

Western Australia slammed its border shut to NSW travellers at 11am on Wednesday following an escalation of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Only exempt travellers are allowed to enter the state.
Premier Mark McGowan accepted it was an inconvenience for many travellers but insisted he was keeping the people of his state safe.
Mr McGowan also had some stern words for the NSW government, saying it should “crush and kill” the virus as soon as possible for everyone’s sake.
“I’d just urge the NSW government to get this under control because this is a threat and a risk to the rest of the country,” he told reporters.
“If that means a lockdown, well then that’s what should happen.”
