Comedian Rohan Joshi took to social media to recount the ordeal where he found himself in the crosshairs of fake courier scammers who employ coercive tactics to extract money from unsuspecting victims. These scammers typically make fraudulent phone calls, falsely accusing individuals of smuggling banned substances or drugs, and then coerce them into sending money as a bribe to resolve the fabricated charges. Joshi took to Instagram to share his encounter, posting a video illustrating how these scammers attempted to persuade him.
In the widely circulated video, Joshi recounts an unsettling encounter where a scammer impersonated a Delhi customs or police official, alleging that Joshi’s Aadhaar Card had been implicated in a drug purchase destined for Cambodia. Suspecting foul play, Joshi challenged the scammer to specify the drugs involved, ultimately exposing the fraudulent scheme.
“I had the greatest scam call yesterday where a guy called saying that he’s from Delhi Police and Customs and that my Aadhaar card has been used to send drugs from Delhi to Cambodia. At which point I was just like, what drugs? And he went quiet for two seconds and he said MMDA. At which point I said, it’s not me. But if they are coming from Cambodia to my house, then please say,” Joshi said in the video.

My dude said MDMA very confidently, but the moment I was like do you even know what you’re talking about, chal MDMA ka full form bata. Guy panicked and hung up. Got another call a few weeks later and I just asked him if he had come prepared with what MDMA stands for this time, and I think they’ve blocked me now!” a user shared.
“I’ve ordered the same from Thailand to Bombay apparently. Cant wait to get my shipment,” another user joked. “Yep, happened to me too! Funnily enough, in Prague! The guys said they’re from EuroPol in terrible fake accent. It was a fun long chat though. They seemed very helpful and compassionate. But they hung up on me when i gave them the honest feedback on their accent,” a third user shared.
Earlier this year, Bollywood actor Anjali Patil fell victim to a similar scam, losing Rs 5.79 lakh in the process. The actor received a call from an individual posing as an employee of DebEx Courier Company, who falsely claimed that a parcel addressed to her contained illicit drugs.
