Transformers One Plot Details and Official Logo Revealed

The official logo for Transformers One has been revealed, with the visual rolling out alongside more info on the movie’s scope. The movie’s previously announced cast members revealed more about the plot, with the franchise’s first animated movie in decades now having a release date.

A prequel set on Cybertron, Transformers One establishes the early days of the Autobot and Decepticon conflict. It will notably dive into how Optimus Prime and Megatron became such hated enemies, all while showcasing other iconic Cybertronians. It also releases right in time for the franchise’s biggest birthday yet. The official logo can be viewed below.

On X and at CinemaCon, Paramount revealed the official logo for the Transformers One animated movie. Said logo itself shapeshifted before making up the title. This somewhat evokes a similar design used for trailers of the original Michael Bay Transformers movie from 2007. Despite this seeming connection, the continuity of the new film is somewhat dubious. After all, the 2018 and 2023 movies Bumblebee and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts were set in a separate continuity from the Michael Bay-directed films.

The movie’s cast also spoke more about the film’s 3D opening and their roles, with Chris Hemsworth noting that the film will “reveal a side of this character that audiences haven’t seen before” in relation to Optimus Prime. Hemsworth voices Orion Pax, which is Prime’s name before he becomes the leader of the Autobots. Likewise, Brian Tyree Henry is D-16, who eventually becomes the Decepticon leader Megatron. The Orion Pax moniker is derived from the 1984 animated series The Transformers, while D-16 was a moniker for Megatron used in the comics, and it’s derived from the numbering of his original toy (Decepticon/Destron 16). Also present was actress Scarlett Johansson, who voices Elita-One (a female Autobot who’s usually portrayed as Optimus Prime’s love interest). Other cast members include Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 (the early form of Bumblebee), Steve Buscemi, Jon Hamm and Laurence Fishburne, the latter three of whom have unconfirmed roles.

The official logline for Transformers One reads, “The long-awaited origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms to become sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron.”

Transformers One Is the First Animated Transformers Movie In Decades

Releasing in theaters on September 13, Transformers One is the first theatrical animated Transformers movie in nearly 40 years. The Transformers: The Movie was released in 1986, and it introduced several key concepts to the franchise, such as Optimus Prime’s successor, Rodimus Prime, Megatron’s upgraded form Galvatron and the Chaos Bringer, Unicron. The most recent movie in the franchise was Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which also featured Unicron along with a cast that included the Maximals from Beast Wars: Transformers.

2024 also marks the 40th anniversary of the franchise, with celebrations already in full swing. These include several new Transformers toys, namely a Chevy Corvette Optimus Prime figure with a corresponding real-life Japanese racecar. There are several other figures and merchandise being released to mark the occasion, including new comic books by Skybound Entertainment and a collection of the classic Marvel Comics Transformers comic book series. There will also be a theatrical screening of the first few episode of the original cartoon.
