A series of explosions occurred over the Russian city of Kursk during the night of January 15. Local authorities attribute the incident to the operations of air defense forces, according to the Telegram channel SHOT.
“An explosion series occurred over the city of Kursk. The preliminary information suggests that the air defense system was activated,” the statement reads.
Residents reported hearing at least 3-4 explosions over the city, followed by a bright flash.
Governor Roman Starovoit of the Kursk region confirmed the information about the explosions, stating that it appears the anti-aircraft defense system was activated over the regional center.
Kursk is located 58 kilometers away from the Russian-Ukrainian state border in the Sumy region.
Explosions in Russia
Various explosions regularly occur in Russian settlements in different regions, most often in border areas.
For instance, in the Rostov region, powerful explosions were reported during the night of January 11, with Russians attributing them to the operation of air defense forces.
In recent months, Russia has also witnessed a significant number of fires, often breaking out in Moscow and other regions. Military facilities and plants are among the structures affected. On January 13, a massive fire erupted in St. Petersburg.
