The Ohio State Buckeyes have already built one of the best defensive back recruiting classes in the nation for 2025, but they’re looking to add depth with even more 5-star safeties.
The Buckeyes assembled a group that includes two of the nation’s top three cornerback recruits, five-stars Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord to go along with four-star cornerback Blake Woodby and safeties DeShawn Stewart and Cody Haddad. Ryan Day and company are trying to reclaim the program’s status as “Best in America”.
“[The Buckeyes are] also looking to close on a pair of elite safeties in Cleveland (Ohio) Shaker Heights star Trey McNutt and Maryland-based five-star Faheem Delane. McNutt was in Columbus over the weekend with a handful of coveted visitors. And coming out of that trip, the Buckeyes look to be the team to beat,” On3’s Keegan Pope wrote.
Listed at 6 foot and 180 lbs, McNutt is ranked No. 2 in both the state of Ohio and safeties position, and No. 28 nationally in the 2025 recruiting cycle according to On3’s Industry Rankings. Delane is 6-foot-1.5, 200 lbs. and ranked No. 1 in Maryland, No 3 safety, and No. 32 nationally.
Time will tell if McNutt and Delane commit to the Buckeyes, but it appears that Ohio State is building a defensive back unit that could pay major dividends for years to come.
