A college football quarterback entering the transfer portal is nothing new this offseason.

The football world has seen over 60 quarterbacks and more than 1,000 players enter the portal since the 2023 regular season came to a close. However, not everyone transfers for the same reasons.

On Wednesday, Marshall quarterback Cam Fancher announced his decision to enter the portal. Thundering Herd head coach Charles Huff said he was not surprised by the decision.

Why? Huff told reporter Cassidy Wood, “there isn’t a lot of money for NIL and the fans hate him. The kid has been miserable.”

Fans “hating” on a college football quarterback is nothing new, but it’s certainly not a good look for the Thundering Herd.

Marshall started the season with a 4-0 record, but struggled down the stretch going 2-6 over its final eight games. Fancher racked up over 2,100 yards passing, while throwing for 11 touchdowns and interceptions – with four rushing touchdowns.

Fancher was a three-star prospect out of high school and will look to reboot his career elsewhere.
