Police have launched a search for a woman who allegedly murdered her three-month-old grandson and tried killing her granddaughter in Coimbatore’s Kavundampalayam. According to police, the 45-year-old woman is reportedly mentally unstable and is absconding after the incident.
The deceased has been identified as B Aryan and the injured girl as B Aarika Sri, children of Aishwarya and Baskaran. The accused, identified as Shanthi, is the wife of a Special Sub-Inspector (SSI) at Mathichiyam police station in Madurai.
According to a report published in The Times of India (TOI), Aishwarya and Baskaran were not at home on Thursday and the children were with their grandmother. However, when the mother returned home, she was shocked to find that there were several injuries on Aryan’s body, including his private parts, police said. Her daughter Aarika Sri also sustained grievous injuries on her hand.
The children were immediately rushed to the hospital but doctors declared Aryan brought dead. Aarika Sri was referred to another hospital and she is undergoing treatment. The accused Shanthi went missing after the incident and police are on the lookout for her.
Thudiyalur police inspector Gnanasekaran was quoted by TOI as saying that the police team collected CCTV footage that showed the accused leaving the house. A special team has been constituted to nab the accused and a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has also been registered.
